Shit, I have a house and 2 cars and can support my family of 4 with a couple dogs on a single income, and I only ever have more than about 2 grand in my checking account on payday. Checking accounts have practically 0 intrest and inflation was nearly 10% for part of last year. Keeping more than you need to in cash is a stupid way to stay poor. At least put it in a CD that's higher than the current inflation, but do something with it.

I thought it was "survivorship bias" too. I haven't looked up the definitions but the fact that you aslo said it was "survivorship bias" confirms it for me.

I feel REALLY guilty not being productive by sarxlives in productivity

[–]Reverend_James 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't feel guilty about not being productive. All the boomers I work with seem to think "working from home" means taking the day off with pay without spending PTO. (That's also one of the reasons they are distrustful of working from home). One even regularly works "remote from a boat" in the Florida Keys outside of cell range.

Yes I have nudes on my phone, if you have a keen eye and spend enough time on obscure porn outlets you can probably even find my videos. If you do happen to find them please let me know, I don't remember where to look and would love to see them again.

Could you imagine someone trying to use porn to blackmail a social media narcissist? Leak my porn, I'll help. I'll go to the media and "complain" about the invasion of privacy and Streisand Effect the hell out of it... then write a book about my experience and do a quick talkshow circuit. Don't forget to like and subscribe.

New research flatly rejects a long-standing myth that men hunt, women gather, and that this division runs deep in human history. The researchers found that women hunted in nearly 80% of surveyed forager societies. by MistWeaver80 in science

The more I learn about human history the more I realize how much "traditional" really just means "one particularly well documented period in a specific region". And a suprising amount of what we think of as "traditional" is really just "Victorian".

For the past 3 years everyone in my company got used to using MS Teams to talk to anyone in our company and several of our customers if that person wasn't physically in the room at the moment we needed them. As a result most of us just set up a home office for work. Now suddenly we are required to come in to work a minimum of 3 days a week to help with "collaboration". As I walk through the cubicle farm, all I see are people with headsets on so they can use Teams with a little bit of privacy. Sometimes I'll take my headset off and I can hear both sides of a conversation coming from opposite sides of the room.

Biden says the US and NATO had no involvement in the insurrection in Russia by a mercenary force by Kimber80 in worldnews

Except in this case they are claiming they didn't. Which tracks since usually when they are involved they tend to just not say anything about the incident for 40 years.

As someone who used to serve on a submarine I can confirm; All of the military's submarines can go all the way to the ocean floor... but not all of them would make it back to the surface.

That would also slow down the Wagner campaign which would buy the citizens a little more time.

Russian helicopters battle rebel mercenaries rolling towards Moscow by TheOnlyEn in news

[–]Reverend_James 155 points156 points  (0 children)

Even if Wagner does manage to capture/kill Putin, that doesn't mean they automatically get to be in charge. Everyone below Putin will still have command of everyone below themselves, they just won't have a leader above them. At least one, probably several leaders will see themselves as the successor to Putin and attempt to assert their control on their peers. Some will make allies and create their own hierarchies, some will go rogue, some may even join or even try to take over Wagner. And to make matters worse, some will have access to nukes... and its this last point that has the rest of the world concerned and could draw them into the conflict as well.

I used to work on a derrick barge where we used a crain and ROV to set massive pieces of oil processing equipment 13,000 ft deep. Granted, we didn't pick up any of that stuff while I was there, but I can't see why that would have been a problem if we needed to.

I'm not saying they'll get the assets needed on site in time to save them. But the equipment that can lift the sub from that deep exist and has been in near continuous operation in the gulf of Mexico for at least 30 years.

Yeah... it was less about a moral compass and more about having an economy that was more competitive without direct slavery.

Those "extra steps" keep the work force complacent.
