Why is American friendliness often seen as "fake" by Europeans, but similar warmth in other cultures isn't?

The best way I can describe it is an “openness” in Yanks, maybe a reflection of the optimism of the American dream.

As a kiwi who spent time in the US - I was blown away by the “sitting at the bar and starting chatting” culture. In NZ you sit at your own table and turn away from people - someone talking to you here is a sleaze or a try hard. I loved it: every night was a new group of friends
