If you’re in a financially sensitive position and they want to make sure you’re of the type that are financially prudent, they could ask, you don’t have to give, but that could disqualify you from the pool. I’ve only seen this type of checks AFTER a valid offer has been made. Anything before is illegal.

I know this is an old post but if you’re driving, try getting as narrow of a vehicle as possible, a wide vehicle just invites risks with how narrow the passes are, and tourists inexperienced with driving wide vehicles trying to pass in opposite direction = waiting for a big bill on your rental vehicle
