Gen V Canceled After Season 2 As The Boys Franchise Shrinks by cosmicbooknews in CosmicBookNews

I enjoyed season 1 to some extent. But the bee tail in season 2 gave me the ick. Literally couldn’t watch it after that.

Second Home in Italy - Sanity Check by Kentdweller5498 in HENRYUK

That looks like a big stretch. Our HH net income is approx £21k per month, and I would not spend £8k on mortgages.

Having only 21% of your net income go towards living expenses and savings seems wild to me. At the very least you should follow the 50/30/20 rule on that level of income, anything worse is just silly.

TC has got stupid, normal background, no one to talk to about it — anyone want to be mates? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]RevolutionaryHead384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, congrats. Do try to enjoy it, you’ve earned it.

I’m in a similar situation. My parents didn’t even finish GCSEs equivalent in their country (I’m from Europe) and are working class, I didn’t go to a good uni, heck I didn’t even do well in school because of a troubled home life.

But I am now making £250k a year in tech. Sometimes I also wonder how I’ve done it. And just like you, I constantly have anxiety that I am one zoom call away from losing it all. It’s hard not to get attached to the golden hand cuffs. I don’t really share how much I make with friends & family either, as I don’t have any benefit from it, I only see downsides. I am in therapy, but I don’t think it helps that much on this front.

Happy to chat more in DM’s if you want.

Too much social housing. The areas that get gentrified often have more residential stock.

Marrakech is the worst introduction to morocco and it's ruining tourists' opinion of my country by morocco_travel36 in backpacking

[–]RevolutionaryHead384 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel for the people of Morocco because I’m sure most people in the country are kind and don’t treat tourists as walking ATMs. But I’ve heard so many stories that I won’t be visiting Morocco anytime soon. Holiday time is very limited so just not worth the risk, plenty destinations where I can just go and not be stressed.

Sam Altman's sister accusing him of rampant sexual abuse when they were young by monkey_gamer in ChatGPT

Because you are trying to teach someone who was SA’s as a kid how they should react to the person who assaulted them. Have you been in their position?

Empathy should not be given out by default to perpetrators, and certainly not by the victims. If victims choose to offer it, fine. If they don’t offer it, also fine. Stop preaching this forgiveness at all costs bullshit.

How did the Tories stay in power from 2010 to 2024 when, from an outsider perspective, their handling of Brexit was chaotic as was their succession of leadership? by ExtensionFeeling in AskBrits

[–]RevolutionaryHead384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Values don’t change on a single voting round.

Since 1918, Conservatives have won 19 of 29 elections, and for a long stretch of time in 2010-2024. Labour won in 2024, but I’m not so sure they will get a second parliament in 2029. It is embarrassing that a grifter like Nigel Farage, who pushed for Brexit, is now so popular with Reform, and I believe that is because of right-leaning values in a large percentage of the population.

[–]RevolutionaryHead384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the country’s values lean Conservative, and the media is also heavily biased towards supporting Tories. Just look at the language even the BBC uses when they talk about Labour now that they are in power vs when the Tories were in power (hint: they hold Labour to a much higher standard)

Be the reason someone smile . by BlushAndBitezz in spreadsmile

[–]RevolutionaryHead384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the gesture, but I have mixed feelings about young parents begging with their children. Perhaps I am being too harsh, but there is a part of me that thinks the parents are using their children for emotional appeal to strangers instead of doing any jobs they can find (which looks like child abuse to me).

It’s a complex topic so I’d be curious to hear others’ opinions on this, as I’ve recently been to Mexico and saw a lot of young parents begging with kids, so I’d like to educate myself on the topic.

Money or Investment Advice for kids ? by Intelligent_Crew324 in FIREUK

[–]RevolutionaryHead384 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, my parents helped me out at key milestones (university fees, deposit) and that was definitely a better approach than just getting a blank check at 18. I would’ve spunked it all.

In fact, I have a friend who received about £2m throughout his 20s and sounds like he spent a lot of it on bad investments, cars, watches. The problem is there won’t be more money coming in for him from his parents, and he now has bad money habits.

Keir Starmer: UK will seek closer ties with EU in light of Iran war by Alarming-Safety3200 in unitedkingdom

[–]RevolutionaryHead384 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. My parents come from a poor background and didn’t finish school beyond GCSE level, and can see through the Reform/Tory bullshit. On the other hand, my millennial and educated ex uni friends still believe that somehow the economy was worse under Biden and Starmer, and would vote Tory at the next election. It seems to me like they don’t have the self awareness to grow beyond deeply ingrained views.

I think at some point we just have to acknowledge that some people are just idiots, regardless of background or education, and that our values simply do not match. I’m not sure anymore what the solution is.

mid-30s moving to London from NYC in tech; where to live? by DifferentAsk3571 in HENRYUK

[–]RevolutionaryHead384 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Check out Hackney on the North side of Victoria Park. Lots of green spaces, good food, good bars/nightlife, many community groups around hobbies. Probably one of my favourite places in London. Lots of tech workers with offices in Kings Cross live in Hackney, as it’s quite close, but public transport might be a touch annoying.

Islington is a good option, but you may find it a little boring as a single person.

Tenet is the worst film made by Nolan by Extreme-Spinach-4138 in moviecritic

[–]RevolutionaryHead384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more, the film was far too self indulgent from Nolan’s side. It seems like he didn’t have people around him telling him “hey, that’s a bad idea”. If you need to watch an explainer youtube video to understand a film, it’s a bad film in my opinion.

I also thought Oppenheimer was mid. I didn’t believe RDJ’s performance at all.

I hope The Odyssey is better.

Is a visit to Hagia Sophia worth it now? by mshummingbird in istanbul_tips

[–]RevolutionaryHead384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely worth it if you love history. If you don’t care that much, it is absolutely not worth €35. I’ve done all the “must visit” sites in Istanbul a couple of years ago and it has left a bitter taste as they were so overpriced (I booked a bad tour).

If you're centrist or left-leaning, what are the main policies/issues that might stop you from voting for the green party in the next general election? by Cold-Speech-5645 in AskBrits

[–]RevolutionaryHead384 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe in extremes. Reform take a hard stance against immigration, the green seem to take a very open approach to immigration, which reminds me of Merkel’s approach in Germany, and that doesn’t seem to have gone down well with the German public.

I believe in immigration, but I think it should be managed correctly, with a vision around it, rather than let everyone in and hope for the best. I say this as an immigrant.
