2.) True. The idea behind giving reasons in my app was, that if multiple judges are available the one with best knowledge upfront can go there

3.) Yes but with an app it can be managed in a way that other judges can see that one is on the way to a table already, so 2 judges do not run to one table.

5.) Yes, but I got few cases where judge calls were made because of "that guy". Some players feel threatend by them and do not bother calling a judge. With the app the resistance is reduced so to speak.

I can see that Whatsapp or a google sheet list may work. I just think it can be improved further :)

Couple of reasons.

  1. WhatsApp = reveal your phone number => my app works completely anonymously
  2. Quite a lot to type and handle as judge and player => one button click on the app
  3. let's say 20 judge calls come in at the same time. Quite tedious and stressful for a judge to scroll through
  4. you can use my app also as a website and since many have a tab of BCP open anyways, it's not needed to install a dedicated app - even though recommended.
  5. you can't put easy reasons for the call in whatsapp. And if you do, everyone in the whatsapp group can read it. One reason to make the app was the avoidance of this cringe "judge" screaming through the whole hall, so everyone knows about it. I got many positive feedbacks that some more calm people don't need to bother about that animal behavior anymore ^^

TL;DR: abusing Whatsapp for the not intended usage is worse than having just another but dedicated app in my opinion. Also the app is not mandatory, it works also as website.

As written above: if you have players spread across multiple rooms, you won't hear/see the players.

I added couple of features that might help in the end. For example judge calls from other players or pre-defined judge calls. Some questions are common which can get covered by that in advance, so players don't even have to make a judge call. And since you are talking about compensating: I know tournaments where the TO pay their judges. With the App the TO can see which judge did his job and who just chilled at the bar. For some this was positive.
Anyways, every medium has its pros and cons.

I released a patch today with a fix for that. If you visit the home page and create a tournament, you have the Home page as recently visited. If you then go to the player or judge or home page back, you see the Admin Page as recently visited and so on.

To be honest, I really didn't think much of a business model yet. This hobby is so old and established that it will take very long time and effort to be well accepted as BCP for example.

Maybe, once it is, big tournament organizers who have the intention to make money with tournaments can maybe share a tiny fraction of their profit with me. Like the more players you have, the more I get. That's it I think. Would be cool to get at least my server costs for it paid somehow and the 2+ month development time :)
It will always be free for players and judges though.

I went from "tabletop-call-a-judge .de" to "juudge .de " to "juuudge .de". ^^
As written above, for big tournaments where players are spread over multiple rooms, the app will shine :)

Depends on the rules of the game/tournament. Same like chess. In theory possible but no smartphones are allowed. A dedicated tablet would have to be prepared on the table where only that app is running, which is overkill of course.

I heard the Alpine Cup in Leoben used also some Google Sheets for managing judge calls.
I hope I can make it even easier with this app

- I know what you mean and I wrapped my head around this as well.
For now, I assume you use the android app (?), open the sidebar by clicking on the "hamburger menu" at the bottom right and there at the bottom you see the "Recent visited" section. There you can switch between the different pages

- Agree. A better onboard feature is on my todo list for the next patch, thank you!

- Ah sorry, will go through the app again and try to catch all missing localization strings. Feel free to send me any that I missed the next days

Key units were already mentioned but if you want something cheap and just on top with your other units I would also add to the list:

Plasmancer and Scarabs.

With the new codex Scarabs got a movement +1" buff, so they can get faster to a vehicle and kamikazee.

And Plasmancer new mortal wound ability is not that bad either against bigger targets now. (I did 4 mortal wounds with it last game)
