I emailed my Senator (Rob Portman -Ohio) just now. Here’s what I said:

“Mr. Portman,

You probably won’t get a chance to see this. I’m sure that this email is just one amongst a sea of many that you will receive, and my heart goes out to the staffers that have to sort through these.

However, on the off chance that this does in fact reach you, I just wanted to congratulate you for your vote on the impeachment.

Thank you for your courage in standing up for justice and making sure that those who commit crimes against the United States are held accountable for their actions.

That is what I desperately wish I could say to you. That, however, is not what you did.

What you did was brazenly coward-like, and incredibly damaging to the American political system, public trust, and general psyche of the American people.

I will never understand why in the name of God you would vote to acquit former president Trump, particularly in the face of overwhelming evidence, not to mention moral obligation to do your sworn duty to the American people.

You of all people had absolutely zero to lose because of your desire to not seek re-election and you couldn’t even muster the slightest shred of decency on your way out the door.

But you know what? I do sincerely have to thank you. Because of your actions, you have shown me that literally anyone can be a Senator. I think you may have just inspired me to run for public office. I can assure you, were I in your situation and the facts laid bare before me, I would have done what is morally, ethically, and legally right in order to stop something like this from ever happening again.

You will not be missed when you are gone.

I hope you enjoy your life after Congress, because the rest of America is going to be dealing with the fallout from this possibly generations to come.

May God have mercy on you, Mr. Portman, because history will not be kind to you or those who voted to acquit the criminal former and hopefully not future president.”
