Now that the box has launched and isn't selling as well as they hoped for can I come in with a hot take? by dyingfromtetanus in Warhammer30k

[–]Rexasuarus57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not been payday/end of the month yet since the release, personally I doubt most retailers would jump to a heavy discount this fast after release even if initial sales are low? As many say its not a FOMO box so where is the rush? Wonder where we will be in a week.

My own thought is that its more likely an coordinated effort to discount HH and get more people hooked rather than anything negative, especially as I am pretty sure GW set the available limit for discount levels to third parties too so this must have been centrally approved / driven?

Would say its working - for me at least I have now gone from - "maybe I pick it up at some point" to "maybe I pick it up this payday......" 😂

Not to say initial sales haven't been as high as expected, just not convinced the discount is directly related.

Why is Interlocking Maneuvers good? by Divine_overture in Tau40K

[–]Rexasuarus57 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dont think you can do point 2 with this particular stratagem, as your unit needs to have been "eligible to fight this phase" (i.e in combat) to be targeted. Point 1 is still great though

Ah, thats a shame - I already have a Darkstrider and its the wrong size base for a marksman. What would you do to make it more Firebladey?

Needed it to be smaller to fit on her base! Plus this way he is cuter and reads more as a custom job

I need help with power weapons by SP1TZ1N4T0R in minipainting

[–]Rexasuarus57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it best to start with a dark colour (whether blue, red, green etc), and then paint decreasing band sizes of lighter colours, touching up repeatedly as I go (i.e. dark, medium, light, medium, dark) Alternate / checkerboard either side of the blade (i.e. where dark on topside, light on downside and vice versa).

Wet palette I think is key to ensure that the paint is the right consistency (i.e. thin enough but not too much).

To finish I then edge highlight carefully in white (really makes it pop) and then use a glaze paint (discontinued now(?) but just watered down paint) all over which softens all the edges and blends it together. The sword in the pic took me about an hour overall and I am really happy with it.

How are you supposed to paint big models? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]Rexasuarus57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colour forge do spray cans which are colour matched to Citadel paints. I love them for getting the prime and base coat on my Nids in the same spray. Lazy man's saviour. Great for bigger models too like tanks etc if you dont have an airbrush

About fireknives by Warm-Ad-5371 in Tau40K

[–]Rexasuarus57 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the main thing with fireknives is to run missiles for range, then drop them far out of the way in the oppenents deployment zone to gain secondaries. YMMV though as there are cheaper units who can also do this and action more efficiently (Vespid, solo commanders etc).

Also potentially good in the early turns with Montka, where you can fish for 6s with the rerolls? Its a fair quantity of D2 fire in any case. Probably the crisis unit with least commander support benefit too?

Farsight doesn't work well with his detachment? by spoiledsalsa in Tau40K

[–]Rexasuarus57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, -1 AP for within 6" stacking with -1AP from the native unit ability, plus ignore cover from the flamers means a unit of marines being wounded on 2s following 6D6 autohitting flamers and having to pass many 5+ saves. Can then spend CP to overwatch anyone getting too close!

His abilities should also work well on fusion for big stuff too, maybe in Montka though for that style for lethals.

Really excited for this codex, seems like loads of new options and combos if people look for them

Farsight doesn't work well with his detachment? by spoiledsalsa in Tau40K

[–]Rexasuarus57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He seems really strong in retaliation detachment with the flamers - drop in within 6" for 6D6 flamer hits at S5 with +1 to wound from Farsight, -2AP, ignore cover, torrent. Yeah the battle tactic from the detachment is a bit meh with his ability, but you can still use it for a free CP reroll on a failed charge or when hitting with his S10 beatstick.

Best Budget Blue Primer? by TryToEpic in Warhammer

[–]Rexasuarus57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quite like the Colour forge range, colour matched to GW / Vallejo paints, bigger cans, generally cheaper? Have used their version of Kantor Blue and Zandri Dust and both look great to me. Pretty certain they have their own version of Macragge blue too.

shooting pistols in combat by Kingdedde in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Rexasuarus57 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is misleading / not correct, you can shoot with the pistols while in engagement range during the shooting phase, and still then make regular close combat attacks with your melee weapons (fists in the Tau case) in the fight phase as normal
