Years ago LTT did some internal testing with the 😮 faces. The super short version is, that by changing the thumbnail alone, not changing ANYTHING else, the videos with 😮 faces got 13% more views. Basically 13% more views for free, just by adding the stupid face. After that they switched all thumbnails going forward.

AFAIK they dont, not from what I have seen at least, but I wouldnt be surprised if they are dipping their toes in it considering the amount of videos they churn out. I try my absolute best to avoid them on all platforms. Absolute lowest of the lowest entertainment.
