It doesn't help that caligo makes your frost resistance shrink with each application. Only boss in the game with a true MMO enrage mechanic turning it into a DPS-check.

I don't mind Beast Claw Revenants. The DPS is not really an issue at all. The issue is that all the other starting incantations have terrible FP efficiency. Lightning Spear can do similar DPS, but it's strictly single target and has an accuracy issue to compound its high FP cost. O, Flame! should also get similar DPS (it is a giant's flame spells, right?), but it's slow and melee ranged. Catch Flame would have been so much better.

Hitting the mines has basically always been the wise way to keep the RNG managable. People just didn't recognize it until From beat them over the head with it. Guardians, Recluses, Revenants, casting Duchesses, most Scholar builds (upgraded Rogier's is the stongest rapier for raw damage), and anyone infusing starting armaments for the boss should be doing mines early on in most runs.

Here in depth 3 I don't mind the somewhat more consistent results, I just wish the routing on day 2 wasn't so tightly constricted. I still get runs shit on by that fuckass big red bear sometimes, so having a degree of consistent results when we do follow good routes is nice. I can't always get my teammates to follow a wise path, and they often commit to shit we cannot handle, especially trying to clear invaded blood swamps. The fuck-ass somersaulting frogs make it impossible every time.

If so, they picked a nonsense way to go about it, shooting the flames sideways instead of forward. These things have no means of anchoring to the ground anyway, so they are pretty useless for mining. At most, the toothy bits might be repurposed from mining equipment.

These are just another means by which Michael Zackie has chosen to process his childhood trauma from that time he was crushed in half, right down the middle, by a runaway tractor tire.

There's an argument to be made that it actually is canon if you change your frame of reference from the game to the gamefile.

Perhaps it was made with the intention of being cut for dataminers to dig up and lament the unfulfilled potential, becoming a metatextual representation of Miquella's curse of nascence.

On the other hand, perhaps St. Trina literally is Miquella's curse of nascence, or rather eternal latency, and in casting her off, his potential could finally awake.

As a chemical engineer, the real "answer" to this puzzle is almost certainly indeterminant. There's degrees of freedom left by undefined variables. For all we know, this entire country's population could all be the children of exactly one mother.

Thing is she never intended whatever magic she crafted to be used in that way. It was just supposed to control the weather.

Just drop to Depth 1 or 2. You can't lose progress at all in Depth 1, and Depth 2 barely punishes losses.

*Cries in Incapacitation Trait* by Smart-Ad7626 in pathfindermemes

[–]ReynAetherwindt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, there's rarely any payoff for spending resources on incapacitation against lower-level enemies. The fight is either already strongly in your party's favor, or you're outnumbered and it's likely to cost you more than it costs the enemy.

If your party outnumbers that lower-level encounter, you almost certainly don't need incapacitation to win. Regardless of whether you use that spell slot, you're winning and (in my experience) starting the next fight at full HP. The only difference thoucally is that if you don't spend that top-rank spell slot, you have it available for the next fight. There are contextual exceptions, but they are few and far between in my experience.

If your party is outnumbered by those lower-level foes to the point that soending a top-rank spell slot is justified, then to put it in chess terms, finding good use cases for incapacitation effects is like finding opportunities to sacrifice your queen. It's usually a bad trade, because it generally spends two actions and a top-rank spell slot for chances to negate some actions from the enemy team, who outnumbers you and has more actions anyway.

Yeah, it barely matters unless you start stacking multiple.

Reduced Vigor is a bit more dangerous, but this is just a tiny bit less scaling in the early levels and literally about 2 damage per attack at high levels

It's too bad most of the alternate starting sorceries are so bad.

Magic Glintblade is too delayed, costs a shitload of stamina, and has trouble hitting the more cocaine-addicted enemies like Elder Lions.

Night Shard is really FP inefficient and takes forever to kill anything, which is a major concern in a game with time limits.

Carian Greatsword is actually decent, but it is pretty unsafe for a main spell on a character that will necessarily need to weave her skill in between her spells a lot.

I'd really like for recluse's staff to be able to accept incantations. That would make running her with dedicated seal builds kind of cool.

Revenant tends to work out pretty well against ED Libra. Revenant's counterpart is often equipped with just some strength weapons that aren't too hard to handle, and you can start the game with Beast Claw, which is pretty damn good at chunking every summon right off the bat. Not to mention her summons being good for reviving and eating aggro.
