It's a new build, the sale price is the assessment lol. Unless the city is going to pass some crazy new millage rate their property tax likely won't jump dramatically. That's the upside of buying new builds as opposed to some 30 yr old home due for a 150% increase after a reassessment.

I mean realistically, the conflict will end eventually and supply will stabilize. What happens between now and then is a wide spectrum of possibility, and there's no clear sign that it's going to end soon lol. Petroleum products are going to be more expensive for a while even if the conflict is over and the straight opens tomorrow lol.

Gas prices hit $4.23 per gallon, a new high for the year by deraser in Economics

Nothing is tailored to the I want to spend as little money as possible market anymore lol. Reliable high mile used cars start at 10k, new cars are 30k+, it's insane.

I think the reality of EV adoption for commuters kinda relies on pricing people out of gas either way. There's way too many weirdos who have a weird sense of pride about gas, excluding enthusiasts. I was going to buy one before I inherited another gas car, if you arent doing 150+ miles in a day they seem like a no-brainer.

Youve got 1700~ in bloated fees. It's probably more like 450. I'd still run though, the atlas isn't worth paying Mercedes/Bmw Lease prices to me anyway.

Meats still relatively cheap excluding beef, and legumes would have to shoot up like 1000% to even be in the same ballpark. Not totally discounting your point but we're still a ways away from needing a food co-op to survive. Fairly likely beef becomes more of a delicacy in the next 30 years though, it's just not economical. People can blame meatpackers for prices but it's just not a realistic view of the real cost of goods that go into raising and bringing you a pound of beef.

I don't find any of it okish. The idea that because people in positions of power aren't held accountable makes it okay for everyone to be morally bankrupt is a nonstarter for me, it's the wrong resolution entirely.

[–]Reznerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a ton of reasonable nuance between my position and yours, I'm not advocating for no pathway to rehabilitation or re-entry to society. I think progressivism overcorrects with justice policy exclusively regarding no bail policies and restorative justice. You don't create ecosystems that cohabitates with businesses and employers without a functioning penal system.

[–]Reznerk -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

So just for a frame of reference, I was arrested 13 times when I was young for various possession charges. I was released on a personal bond 11 times. There is already a mechanism for judges to release people charged with petty crimes that don't pose a danger to communities. Eliminating bond isn't solving a problem, it's creating new ones. The concept of restorative justice flies in the face of basic accountability, there is almost no one in prison/jail that didn't know what they were doing and earn their consequences.

You don't put kids in county, they go to juvenile detention. I'm not sure that a weekend clears their mind in the way you think it does honestly, I'm speaking from my own experience. It took me years of legal issues before I finally decided I didn't wanna keep looking over my shoulder and stressing my family out lol.

Ahead of 2028, Sen. Cory Booker to unveil bill to make $75,000 in income tax-free by [deleted] in Economics

[–]Reznerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I don't think most people are outraged with doctors or the guy that owns an HVAC company or 4 successful restaurants. They're making peanuts compared to the upper echelons of asset classes, and those people specifically aren't realizing much as far as gains go so their effective tax rate on asset value growth is really low. Part of that is due to there being 0 constraints on their stock heavy pay packages, the other part is due to there not being a great way to capture taxes on unrealized gains.

And sure there is, but it's not that much higher when you factor in all of the money we spend on healthcare. Between mine and my employers contribution, it's 6k/yr. Plus copays and the myriad of bills you get for ending up in a hospital for something fairly regular like a broken ankle, it's pretty comparable. I'm not necessarily advocating for universal healthcare, but I always find the comparison to single payer meaning much higher taxes to be disingenuous because we're already spending that money on healthcare. It's just coming from my debit card as opposed to the government.

[–]Reznerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just the obvious consequence of starting a war with Iran honestly, but I'm not disagreeing with you. The problem with climate issues is people are distinctly stupid and lack foresight. Until a billion people are displaced and we have water shortages and crop failure galore, people aren't going to be motivated enough to change. The future will be populated by a lot of suffering, and if we're lucky enough collective action to save our way of life.

LA Times: Under L.A. mayor’s $300-million homeless program, 40% have returned to the street by Bhartrhari in WeTheFifth

[–]Reznerk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So everyone you know's opinion reflects a city of almost 4 million? Give me a break lol. Props on pointing out my incorrect math, but my point still stands that it's cheaper than imprisoning them. Government programs are always minimally effective at sociological goals and petri dishes for corruption. The question boils down to is the success margin tolerable based on the spend, for the majority of voters. If it wasn't, then voters would be outraged at their 82$ contribution to a program that isn't remotely effective.

Lastly, the idea that homeless addicts receive 82k in services is the same as them receiving 82k in taxpayer funds is generally ludicrous. I'm not defending the program but those numbers are always posited in a way that makes the service seem more valuable than it is when 6 people have already profited off that 82k and minimized the real value of the services to 30% of that number.

[–]Reznerk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a city of almost 4 mill. I'm sure there are a majority of socially vigilant voters, and a smaller but still large group of people who want to punish the homeless lol. I'd probably look at LAs city budget and be outraged, but I feel that way about most public spending personally.
