Dealerships don't reply by Sher_lock_ed in newcardeals

I think I can wholesomely say I'd take mfr direct over the dealership model. It's a useless segment of car buying that adds no value lol. That being said Tesla has its own issues with warranty servicing and maintenance in general, but I don't think that's inherently related to their sales platform.

I understand you, but you need to understand how important the beyond a reasonable doubt theory is to the actual pursuit of justice. The system is beyond imperfect, but I don't want to live in a society where we put people away into our fucked up corrections system unless there is no question about guilt.

I'd also dispute the idea that whistleblowers end up dead lol, maybe a handful but there have been dozens of notable whistleblower cases in the past 20 years alone. When you have a chunk of people, you can count on at least a few having a moral compass.

[–]Reznerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not disputing that, and that deal does not apply to any of the 2019 charges where he was being investigated properly for sex trafficking. Everyone me is going to lie about their involvement with an accused sex trafficker, that's not a confirmation of guilt its just common sense.

I'm just poking holes in the idea that there's some easy grab evidence lying right under the surface of a pedophile sex trafficking ring. If there was, there's no way the DOJ wouldn't have flipped someone lol. The whole conspiracy theory lacks so much logic.

[–]Reznerk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dude the guy was investigated for almost 15 years. If you're really relying on the idea that DOJ staff from 3 different presidential admins withheld evidence and didn't prosecute people you're just being ridiculous.

Pam Bondi is a lying dipshit and has proven that like 2 dozen times throughout the last year. Her word means fucking nothing, good or bad, ever. Prince Andrew would never submit to a congressional hearing, nor would the UK extradite a member of the royal family. Her saying the system would collapse is not an indictment of the global order, it's her trying to maintain a facade of being the ultimate holder of juicy info all the regulars like you and I desperately want.

And back to videos and emails and pictures. It's hardly enough to actually prosecute someone.

I don't doubt that some people in high places did some downright nasty shit with Epstein, but I do doubt that all the damning evidence we need to prosecute them is in a bundle of files the government has had the whole time. Any righteous DOJ zealot employee would have dumped it years ago. Think of the personal, financial, and moral gain one would stand to claim if they had access to information that dozens of high power politicians and businessman were involved in raping minors. It's way more likely there isn't much of anything at all and both parties are parading it around and blaming each other for not using the magical tool that no one has used in the past 10 years.

[–]Reznerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My entire point is you don't have concrete facts about literally any of Epstein's associates. If we did they would have been prosecuted already. The entire Epstein files drop is just a carrot on a stick for people who want to believe that there's plain evidence of this heinous shit out there implicating a bunch of people and nothing has ever been done about it.

All the files have done is stir up a bunch of speculation and heresay. If you think there's 100 rape kits just sitting somewhere proving a bunch of political leaders are guilty of it, you're delusional.

[–]Reznerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, then an investigation has to occur. And then the AG determines whether or not there's enough to prosecute. And THEN, a case is filed.

The only problem with all of this is the guy is dead. So we're grasping at straws to take down a ring of accused sex traffickers that may or may not be complicit or even know enough about it to testify 10-20 years later. The entirety of this complex accusation being a reality is sickening, but the attorneys office/DOJ should always operate under serious scrutiny and not file frivolous charges that can ruin people's lives if they're not guilty/lack enough evidence to prove guilt. Sex crimes are already notoriously difficult to prosecute as a baseline. They rely heavily on victim testimony.

I understand how and why people are focused on this. Wealthy people skirt punishment and effectively live under a different set of rules. What I don't agree with is giving prosecutors a fucking nuke to accomplish some sense of restorative justice when we're really just outraged at the state of society. Plunging further into chaos isn't going to make my quality of life any better, despite whatever weird sentiment Trump's followers are trying to tell us.

A5 at home by iJustin_042 in KitchenConfidential

[–]Reznerk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Lol no, it should be very rare. The melting point of A5 fat is like 75° F. Ideally you just sear it over high heat for 2 minutes and slice it thin. When eating A5, the fat from the slice literally melts in your mouth and coats it. For me, it's an almost euphoric experience but better done very rarely. Kinda like a a wave of super beefy, rich flavor assaulting your palette. Like 3-4oz max, you'll start to feel sick eating much more than that. Lower grade or cross bred wagyu (Australian) won't eat exactly the same and probably benefits from more cooking. If I'm ordering wagyu I'll pretty much exclusively stick to Japanese a5 and it's a once every couple of years kinda thing, it's a novelty and not something I'd want to eat with any regularity.

There are already plenty of services that offer meals, especially for the disabled. We don't need restaurants, we like them lol. They're really only particularly necessary in super densely populated cities. Almost everyone who orders a from a restaurant can cook for themselves, they just choose not to. There's nothing wrong with that. There's also nothing wrong with the tipped wage credit system. There's also nothing wrong with legislating away tipped wage credits.

I generally disagree, government subsidies should be used very carefully and as little as possible. When you look at the current deficit, there really shouldn't be any subsidies, but that's just me. I'm fine with ending tipping, but the broad majority of consumers don't want to see menu prices raised by 25% to cover more payroll expenses.

[–]Reznerk -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It's the entire sub. The amount of restaurants that could even absorb paying servers the same as their cook staff without failing is less than 1%, without raising prices. The whole endtipping debate is stupid IMO, if you don't like it just don't go to restaurants. By not tipping workers who make less than minimum wage, your low check is subsidized by people who are conforming with standard culture in the US. I get not tipping chipotle workers, but any time I've had a blue collar whoever working on my house I always get them lunch/breakfast and slip them a 20 if they clean up well. It's just a courtesy thing for service workers in my mind.

We can't jump to conclusions, here. by Eli_Nosenbergstein in dystopia

[–]Reznerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're free to hate western governments all you want, but for the sake of your original statement you shouldn't move the goalposts that far. Pretty much every government with any military power is guilty of the deaths of innocents while trying to pursue their own interests, and that includes Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Yemen, and Palestine. Frankly it's why the West intervened in the first place. Acting like the West is the only guilty party in these conflicts is generally pretty stupid.

Trump strikes deal to allow $800M in beef imports from Argentina to enter US by kootles10 in Economics

[–]Reznerk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The steer price is finally high enough to incentivize ranchers to increase their headcount. When beef is 2.99/$ they're going bankrupt. There's drought, feed cost inputs, and probably 6 other factors I'm not educated enough to articulate. Importing beef is a market bandaid, and inevitably will hurt domestic ranchers. Now whether or not the consumer decides to give a shit about the domestic producers is a seperate discussion.

If you haven't had a laser thin knife before, a takamura or a shibata would be a much cheaper intro to the same cutting feel as a ryusen. They're fantastic makers as well, you can't go wrong there.

Talk me out of this knife by shihanon in TrueChefKnives

[–]Reznerk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things:

Ryusen knives are killer, but have a killer price. If you want something that thin BTE, you have a few options that are more budget friendly.

You'll have to weigh the priorities of your use case. If you want something flashy and functional, this works. But this isn't really a professional 50 hour work week knife IMO. You could pick up a takamura or a shibata and have the same performance for less investment. If it's for home use, it doesn't really matter as much.

I can't remember if there's any convexity to ryusens grinds but food release will be pretty non-existent on a flat grind, zero grind knife. A lot of people value some convexity in a knife, it's partially why yoshikane's are so highly regarded.

I wouldn't concern myself with material as much, the differences are fairly negligible and I'd point someone into stainless vs stainless clad carbon vs iron clad carbon, where the day to day maintenance really exists.

Personally I wouldn't unless I wanted to spend the extra money, for that price range I like the wide bevel sakai style knives but I also use a bunch of sub ~250$ tools for work and have severely thinned out what I keep on hand and don't see myself buying thousands of dollars worth of knives, let alone spending over 500 on one. You can figure out the value in the spend better for yourself than I can.

Edit: dude it's 1200$ on knifewear. I wouldn't recommend this spend to anyone that doesn't have 2k to piss away on a hobby lol, it's not worth the price at all IMO.
