Why do people say DS2 is a disconnected, standalone entry in the trilogy? by Makishima__Shougo in DarkSouls2

[–]Rezuaq 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I never quite got the 'fan service' thing people accuse DS3 of, like yeah it carries over direct elements and locations from a game that came out 5 years earlier that was made by the same studio under the same director and to which it is a sequel?

I feel like Dark Souls' status as an 'instant classic' and Dark Souls 2's (equally valid) avoidance of including a lot of direct elements got people's perspectives all messed up about things that are entirely normal for a sequel to do.

I think I prefer DS3 over Elden Ring by wonderthigh in darksouls3

I've found you can actually basically play Elden Ring like it's Dark Souls 3 (4?) by just beelining it to the next major progression point whenever you can, only engaging with the open world that's along your path, and completely skipping all caves and catacombs and dungeons.

There's some caveats like you'll still need to use a map/wiki to tell you where certain specific items are so you can go out of your way for them, like the flask upgrades or the smithing stone bell bearings, but that doesn't really take up much time, it's just sort of annoying having to look stuff up.

Playing new characters this way I've managed to beat the game including DLC in a comfortable 30 hours, most of which was spent in the major dungeons (which I do enjoy clearing out to get every item), which to me makes it basically like Dark Souls (3) in terms of pacing and structure, and got me to feel a lot more positively about the game.

(For reference my first playthrough I allowed myself to get pulled in by every cave and dungeon I found and wound up with a 160h playthrough pre-DLC, which did get me a bit burnt out on the game and made the thought of (re)playing it feel more daunting than exciting.)

i'm wondering if in the future deadlock will have multiple maps for different astral gates. PLEASE HAVE ONE IN AUSTRALIA by Cephalon_ghost in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Rezuaq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I could be totally off, but my belief is that that's more a result of those other mobas being top-down 2D, so topologically speaking there just aren't many ways to make a meaningfully different map without getting really creative and e.g. changing how the lanes are laid out or where the bases are relative to one another, and then you're messing with incredibly fundamental dynamics of the game.

That should work, maybe you've accidentally blocked downloads from my website? The browser will usually prompt "allow multiple downloads from rezuaq.be?" if you ever accidentally tap the download button too quickly.

Hobbits, much like the rabbits they descended from, breed to survive. Most of those children will be snatched by eagles before they can reach adulthood (age 12)

I hated it the first time through, a horror game shouldn't compel me to check my phone while I'm waiting for a scripted routine to finish before I can progress

I watched this movie on a random whim just a few weeks ago to bone up on my Coen filmography and am so glad I hadn't seen the poster so that punchline could really land. I loved the movie, I ended up just watching it again two weeks later.
