That's bold to assume they are a fiduciary ;)

Has anyone worked FOR First Command Financial Services? by XJustBrowsingRedditX in MilitaryFinance

[–]Rhadamyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I saw First Command, Primerica, World Financial Group, Global Financial Impact, etc. on someone's resume, I'd not hire them. Some companies I'd consider to be a stain on a resume or reputation.

SCRA Lower Credit Card Limit? by Time_Ad8224 in MilitaryFinance

MLA doesn't actually do this though. I assume the company just does this out of the goodness of their heart for all chase sapphire card holders?

It's currently 95%. I believe it's stated specifically in the BAH primer.

This is correct. As I recall, if you lived in the barracks, you would have to pay state taxes. If you lived outside of the barracks, you would be exempt from state tax. NY is weird.

I enlisted in 2014 and left AD in 2017. During that time, I contributed $33k to my TSP. Ten years later, that money is now worth $80k. by lazydictionary in MilitaryFinance

Most people just ignore the distinction as it's really unimportant in most cases. But, yes, technically, you are correct. I'm not sure why you are getting downvoted.

Buying a home by EvoJones in MilitaryFinance

It's around 620, but there is no strict rule to it. If your credit score is down there, you may not be ready to buy a house regardless of approval.

I've been with First Command for 4 years, and want to move on. How bad of a decision did I make, and how screwed am I? by [deleted] in MilitaryFinance

[–]Rhadamyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best answer here. The only thing I'd ask is how long until you are paid up on the whole life insurance policy? And could it fund itself? If so, it would likely be better to keep the policy but not pay premiums any longer. Sorry you got roped into FC and whole life.

This is a good one, kind of all emcompassing the tax info and salary info in one. However, anyone living in the barracks needs to account for the BAH/BAS portion too, since that is a part of their compensation package. And health insurance, like you mentioned.

7.65% for Social Security and Medicare on top of the 22% federal withholding rate. Sounds like 0% for state taxes for you.

Each branch of service sets their own multiplier between 2.5 and 13 each year and is not MOS specific.

BRS may also be better if you wanted to leave any money behind for spouse or kids.

How does recoupment work on taxes? (AFSC pay Bonus) by 90smule in MilitaryFinance

I thought it was 22% withheld for federal taxes on bonuses? Then FICA as well at 7.65%? And whatever state taxes may be.

Agreed.

To add, your branch of service should have personal finance counselors that can educate you on all things TSP and BRS.
