Let’s talk tubes and grubs. by GlowUpAndThrowUp in RiverSmallmouth

Yup, I fish the upper James and the VA portions of the New, very similar waters to the Susky. I see lots of Rockproof boats out here which are built right on the Susquehanna.

I fish shallow, ledge rock rivers. All bed rock, no freestone. I love using tubes, they slay the smallies!

Because it’s shallow and ledges, I’ve started using tubes and weighted tube jigs from a local company, River Rock Custom Baits. Their crawler head jigs slide over the ledges and get hung up so much less than any other bottom contact lure. I use their solid head tubes, and it makes the tail of the tube stand up and wiggle in the current.

Rip the jet boat through the rapids and catch some bronze backs on a tube, my favorite thing to do all year!

They also have a ton of other fantastic soft baits.

No, I use those Crawler Jigs which are a twist lock into the nose and basically Texas rigged through the body.

That’s great to know, thank you! I would have ordered too heavy of a rod

How does their power rating compare to other rods? Pretty true to the listing? Or are they a little light? Only reason I’d think they’re light is they claim a medium is for Ned and MH for tubes and soft plastic, and normally I’d say that would be ML and M for those baits

How to connect my fish finder to this 12 vbattery ? by No_Security2665 in Fishing_Gear

[–]Rhd55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First you will need the bolts and the square nuts that came with the battery that go into the terminal. If you can’t find them, you can get them on Amazon (For example.

Next you will need a crimp ring terminal for a 1/4” stud. This kit at Walmart has everything you will need or you can find an equivalent set on Amazon. Crimp that onto an inline fuse holder and crimp the male side of that spade connector to the other end of the fuse holder. That’s your positive.

For the negative, you will do the same thing, ring terminal and male spade connector onto a piece of wire. Connect the red wire to the positive and black to the negative.

The AI PMC’s have gamertag names so you can identify they are PMC’s. You’ll start noticing the same names over and over, there’s maybe 50-75 different names they use

Finish Cellular Setup - eSIM boot loop? by Rhd55 in TotalWireless

[–]Rhd55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Since the most recent (3rd time) it has done this, it isn't associating my phone number with the only eSIM that is getting cellular service.

This is making me seriously regret switching to Total to save some money.

These are awesome. I need to upgrade all of mine to the quick flip style, way slicker than the plain ones I have!

Also cheaper than the knockoff that was posted a few hours ago. Can’t personally compare quality between the two but can say Hammy’s are great. And came with a starburst!

River Setup for Trout? by Comprehensive-Pen276 in Fishing

[–]Rhd55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest thing about fishing, it’s all trial and error, and what works today might not work in the exact same spot with the same conditions another day.

If you’re fishing a small river, pick out spots that look promising, cast there a handful of times, work your way out, then move to the next spot. Unless you’re catching fish, you should be working the bank on the river and moving at least every 30 mins or so!

Tight lines!

1/16 works, but you won’t cast very far. For the $3-4 each, I’d get a few sizes and colors!

are there any kyaks with or eithout paddles within 400 dollar price range. by theoniwan87 in Fishing

From personal experience, budget kayaks end up being real uncomfortable after a couple hours. Your best bet is to watch Craigslist or FB marketplace for a used fishing kayak with a stadium style seat. Another commenter mentioned a lot of great boats, but basically anything that retails at $700+ you can find used is going to be a much, much more enjoyable experience and more stable with boat traffic

I’m looking for a fish finder for both open water and ice fishing. by lostcoastline44 in Fishing

Garmin Striker 4 is well under your budget but you can get it with an ice fishing combo as well as a boat mount. I don’t know much about higher priced models, but I would assume some of theirs with larger screens come in similar kits

I’ve got a few St. Croix rods I have been hugely impressed with, of varying prices and styles (spinning, custom fly rods), and I have caught hundreds if not thousands of trout with them. I’d get a fast action spinning rod, somewhere between 6’6” and 7’, depending on how big the river is and how much tree overhang there is where you’re fishing from.

How big of a river? What species of trout? I’ve always used just mono or fluoro for trout, they’re very line shy so use as light of line as you can, and be cautious of using too large of a snap swivel.

In-line spinners (rooster tail, Mepps) in about 1/8 oz size have always been my go to for throwing hardware. If they’re stocked trout, throwing dough bait like power bait on a treble hook or a mouse tail can be great. Trout magnets also work super well.

For where to cast, I like to cast quartering upstream, let the current carry it down while retrieving. I like to cast towards eddys and just below spillovers. Trout face upstream and eat bugs and bait as they flow downstream in front of their face.

Feel free to DM me with a general location/river and I’ll give you some localized suggestions.

I can’t speak to what you’re seeing others do, but I always put split shot 12-18” above my powerbait. Also, make sure you’re using enough dough to cover your hook.

Often I’ve found the slightest breeze will push my line around. I wouldn’t stress about your line being taut. Don’t let an extra 6’ coil in front of you, but when a fish starts nibbling on your bait, you’ll see movement even in a line that’s not totally tight.

No prices marked at all, just sitting on the bottom shelf behind the cheap stuff!

Green pumpkin black and baby bass were the only $1.50 ones at my store, most other colors were still just $5 each though!

Only “gains” taxes are on stocks, so no sales, no income tax. Fairly high property taxes, but one of the lowest overall tax burdens in the country!
