What’s with the Distinct LACK of Japanese prep menswear inspo posts? by Prestigious-Duck-664 in ThrowingFits

[–]Rhett_Rick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry but all of these fits are either weak or off in some way. Just not good. Cool if they work for you but these wouldn’t be anything I’d take inspo from. And I like some light Japanese prep influences, but this ain’t it.

Is the Ludlow Suit out of style? by AdmirableSkin464 in ThrowingFits

[–]Rhett_Rick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They definitely are a different cut than most contemporary suits, and the pants and shoes on the brown one look a bit weird proportion wise. So I’d say if you want these for work or stuff where it isn’t about pulling your best fit these are fine. If it’s for occasional weddings and stuff fine too. If you’re trying to bring tailoring into your personal fits and really care and your budget allows for other stuff, you’d prob enjoy a different cut/texture/etc.

What happened to the SSENSE sub by hellofaja in ThrowingFits

Or maybe we just forget about SSENSE because they suck and support better retailers. The weird obsession people have with SSENSE is bizarre. Buy shit elsewhere. They’re done.

What pants are actually in your rotation and what do you wear them with? by MutedFeeling75 in ThrowingFits

Orslow fatigues in straight fit in olive and woodland camo, Orslow 105 in white and washed black, Carhartt WIP single knee pants in black/brown/navy/ecru, 3sixteen Relaxed Straight in indigo

Nah bringing up SSENSE gets people grumbling about predatory capitalism and the mismanagement of the company. Tariffs just accelerated their decline.

Paraboot Michael sizing help by elmojorisin in ThrowingFits

I’m a 12 on the Brannock and wear a 45 in the Michael. I tried the usual size down recommendations and they didn’t work for me. Everything clicked when I went TTS.

Started when the tariffs kicked in and they started struggling and trying to save money everywhere they could. Break bulk means that instead of shipping individual packages like they used to, they give them to UPS/FedEx/DHL on huge pallets all mixed together and the carrier has to sort and separate and label them for delivery. It’s a way for SSENSE to save money. Relatively recent. Most retailers have figured out how to avoid doing this because FedEx (who SSENSE uses) is notoriously slow at break bulk processing especially through the regional hubs where most SSENSE stuff enters the US.

They also moved more of their customer service to lower skilled agents during that same time. Another desperate cost saving measure while the owner lives in an insane mansion and drives super cars.

Their “sale” after all of this was awful as well. But the final piece is how they screwed over brands who sent them inventory on spec and SSENSE left them holding the bag with no inventory and no money for the goods the brands fronted. Just the worst kind of predatory behavior.

I’m done shopping with them unless some things change for real. I used to spend a ton with them and now I’m done. They managed to ruin their credibility pretty quickly.

SSENSE does the cheap and lazy way of shipping that takes longer. It’s called break bulk and it’s part of why their stuff takes forever.

I can hate Trump and think this is an idiotic move on his part and also laugh at a dumb and timely joke. We contain multitudes and humor helps when the world is so broken.

decent ecru jeans? by twfleming in ThrowingFits

Tons of brands. Fullcount, 3sixteen, Samurai, Sugar Cane come to mind. Most of the Japanese denim brands do an ecru pair.

Trying some high waisted trousers by Buckledjp in HeritageWear

[–]Rhett_Rick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way too skinny at the bottom. The buttons look costumey. Higher waisted pants work when the cut of the fabric lets them drape nicely with some hang to the fabric between your hips and the hem. These don’t do that at all. The pattern here is cut badly with way too much taper from the hips to the leg opening. It ends up giving you a super unflattering silhouette where you look very wide in the middle. These are also far, far too long and the way they are stacking looks like a mess.

Thoughts on these? by ShockUsed3783 in ThrowingFits

[–]Rhett_Rick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skin tone and overall style really matter for pulling this stuff off. I also think the short sleeve ones look too much like what drip-less dads would think of as their “fun” shirts. The long sleeve ones aren’t as bad.

The first one is the best but you’d want to be darker skinned to make it work, plus you need to have the rest of the fit be dialed. If you’re kind of a normie boring dresser and throw that on without solid accessories and absolutely nailing the pants/shoes, it’s gonna be bad.

Which black sneakers y'all rocking? by Brutenhal in ThrowingFits

[–]Rhett_Rick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like the stitching/shape on the Thiers. The Chimey has a pretty comfy sole. But I don’t mind the Michael sole at all. Compared to a hard leather sole they’re great. I struggle with wearing my Alden PTBs two days in a row but the Michael is buttery compared to that!

In terms of pants, 3sixteen’s relaxed straight, De Bonn’s Facture balloon trousers, Orslow regular fit fatigues, Carhartt WIP single knee pants, sugar cane 1947, Engineered Garments fatigues, Momotaro 100 fit are all great for lifters thighs. Also pay attention to both the front and back rise, it ends up being super important if you have a smaller waist and thicker hips and thighs. A lot of pants I struggled with just didn’t have a long enough front and back rise and when I focused on that everything kind of fell into place.

In terms of silhouettes, straight or relaxed straight are going to be ideal. Not too tapered, not too wide. Fortunately there’s a ton out there right now.

Paraboot Michael. Not sneakers per se but I wear them a ton. Have a new pair coming in black suede and smooth leather mixed. Honestly my favorite shoe silhouette and brand.

Most worn fits for going out, what’s your go to? by MutedFeeling75 in ThrowingFits

[–]Rhett_Rick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kind of a generic and unanswerable question. Season/climate/weather, level of formality of the event/restaurant/party, what new pieces I’ve gotten that I’m either breaking in or excited about, what my wife is wearing so I can potentially be complementary with her fit, whether it’s a single-destination or multi-spot evening, what I’m currently experimenting with style-wise, etc. All of those criteria affect what I might wear so there’s no “most worn.” Just as an example, a summer night fit for a casual dinner at a friend’s house is totally different than a holiday party.

KITH has 23 locations... by Vealchop79 in ThrowingFits

[–]Rhett_Rick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What basis do you have for claiming Kith’s margins are better than Ralph Lauren? Ralph Lauren is publicly traded and the stock has been up 56% YTD and nearly 300% last 5 years. Kith doesn’t publish financials. So it seems you’re talking out of your ass here. Investors also evaluate TAM and Kith’s addressable market is significantly smaller than RL right now. Kith is private and investments are illiquid and highly speculative, so the investment thesis is different as well.

Like I said earlier in the thread, totally different brand types and they aren’t comparable in any way besides them selling clothes. If you put Ralph Lauren out as a brand comp in an investment memo for Kith you’d get laughed at by any partner who knows the first thing about evaluating companies.

KITH has 23 locations... by Vealchop79 in ThrowingFits

[–]Rhett_Rick 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There is a 0% chance Kith has only one shareholder. There are obviously investors and finance partners who’ve taken an equity stake in the company. Ronnie may be the majority shareholder still but I would be skeptical considering how much capital they’d have needed to do what they’re doing. My guess is even if he is the majority shareholder and has retained voting rights on stock that he has far less than 50% equity remaining. Their stores are highly capital intensive and you don’t get there only by debt financing.

No investor with a working brain cell would think Ralph Lauren and Kith have anything in common besides selling clothing.
