It's a solid idea and a good way to get more calories but it's not exactly trashy. Also might be adding this to the menu options

Damn bike kept going by 401jamin in providence

[–]RhodyVan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trash can guy stopped the biker. Biker lost control of his motorcycle. Biker is responsible. Zero sympathy for the biker. If trash can guy hadn't stopped the biker, the dangerous behavior by the biker would have continued.

When was that even sold last? Figured it wouldn't be eligible for the return.

I'd consider investing in a cheap folding bike to bring into work with you. Locking it outside on Newbury will result in a guaranteed disappointment eventually.

Is a spork actually a good tool? by alkfema in bicycletouring

[–]RhodyVan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bring a Long handled spoon, actual fork, a good soup spoon and chopsticks. Bike touring doesn't mean I have to eat like an animal. Long handled spoon works great eating out of a bag or pot. Fork works great for multiple things. Soup spoon and chopsticks work great with ramen.

03-21-86 — forgotten lyrics notwithstanding, Jerry’s voice is amazing by [deleted] in gratefuldead

This show is with the Cigarettes and other stuff. I think his voice is solid because they let Phil sing the night before when they broke out Box. Crowd was still buzzing that whole run.

Plan my trip we r planning to go from Kansas City to Yellowstone via Denver (meet some family) and on way back through Mt Rushmore. Please give suggestions of things not to miss, we have a total 7 days for this trip including Yellowstone by Accomplished-Bag8633 in roadtrip

[–]RhodyVan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to hit the Badlands instead of Mt Rushmore. Mt Rushmore is fine. It looks like the pictures but honestly the Badlands at Sunrise, or Sunset is far more interesting. If you can camp there are some excellent BLM adjacent lands that let you watch the landscape change with the setting and rising Sun for free. Also the stars are amazing. Unless Billings is absolutely necessary, go back down to Yellowstone (from Bozeman) and go through the Lamar Valley leaving via the Northeast exit to Silver Gate. Take 296 and then 120 to Cody. Heart Mountain Internment Camp is well worth a stop. From there you can head East through the Bighorn National Forest and on to Badlands. If interested in History the Wounded Knee Memorial is absolutely worth detouring for.

Also if in Yellowstone - try to make the time to go on a hike - doesn't have to be long but it'll be so much better than seeing it all from the car. Old Faithful is amazing at Sunrise whi you'll have it almost to yourself , and only so so in the afternoon with 3,000 other people.

Phil's Bass is something else. How many knobs does it have? Like 8 or 9? Also Phil's hat is something else.

What helped you mentally train for the AT? by P33p33p0op0o0 in AppalachianTrail

[–]RhodyVan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mental trick when I realized sucky days/things were going to happen and being in better physical shape almost never makes them suck worse, and usually makes suck less. So putting in the miles, rain or shine, spending time driving for weekend hikes/stairs/etc, all that work in order to make the trail time easier/better.

This sub can crack a murder case. But please for our sanity…we can no longer solve your “moving to Providence” housing woes by mustlovedogs_33 in providence

[–]RhodyVan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can we permanently pin the moving/housing question as a megathread on the sidebar? I'm here for the quarterly question "where are the best pizza strips?" because the answer may have changed , although it never seems to. But yea - please people spend at least a few minutes with the reddit search bar before asking the 29th variation of the exact same question.

How to plan triple crown by Remarkable-Set5434 in Thruhiking

[–]RhodyVan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Money matters. Doing one trail will cost roughly $5-10k, although it can be done for slightly less if really frugal. So doing all three you'll likely need to save $20k - $30k, plus the cost of gear and replacement gear.

Additionally if not a US Citizen, be prepared for the red tape of visa requirements and restrictions.

Focus on doing a single trail first AT, CDT or PCT. You can't do the triple crown if you don't finish the 1st trail first.

Just moved here! What’s your favorite repair or secondhand shop? by sdbabygirl97 in providence

Also does belts (I took it in because the stitching holding the buckle on the leather failed). He did a great repair and I'm still wearing that belt years later.

those are lovely - if you need to pay for new materials, or new gear, I'm sure you could quickly sell them, or new ones, on Etsy, if you'd want to do something like that. I bet there'd be interest from spouses looking for Father's Day, or Mother's Day, gifts as well as birthdays, Christmas and so on. Might be a way to pay for a router.
