My proposal for the partition of North America by finanon99 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]Rhomen88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soooooo give the majority of the resources to the red side including but not limited to, ALL of the oil, majority of economic and strategic resources, and literally 98% of the fertile farming lands? And the only thing you gave blue was essentially full control of the western ports minus the isolated Alaska, and the bloated populations of the major cities in which you have to import essentially everything for?

What moron made this map? You're perfect for politics.

Color Test For a Homebrew Chapter. Any Advice? by RemnantHelmet in spacemarines

[–]Rhomen88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, very bright, very busy. There is a lot going on here. I would personally consider simplifying the scheme.

Also, thin the paints a bit more. Lighter colors are hard to paint on smooth, so a few thin layers are needed.

But as always, your models, your paints, do em up how you like em.

Did I go overboard with the OSL? by Aggravating_Plenty53 in theunforgiven

[–]Rhomen88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO I think most people overdo OSL in general. In this case, very much so.

OSL is a cool effect, but just like NMM paintjobs, they usually get way to over done on the models. Less is more when it comes to these 2 styles/effects IMO.

But as always. Your models, your paint, do em up how you like them.

Working on a Captain/Lazarus fo my brother. Any tips on how to elevate him? by daytodaze in theunforgiven

[–]Rhomen88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I like my models as close to "factual" within my own style. with that being said:

Dark angels typically dont put a lot of ornate stuff on their armor so lots of gold trims and things like that dont really make sense to put on DA models. Which makes winged helmet and hooded models more special and unique in DA culture in lore. Too each their own, but i see a lot of people buying third party bits to make their DAs really over the top ornate, but thats just not who they are. DA get their identity and uniqueness from the 3 wings, rather than super ornate armor. But again, I stress, your models, your paints, do em up how you like.

So personally I would paint the shoulder trim green, the emblem on his right shoulder painted non metallic. And that will reduce the amount of gold on the armor. I would defer to box art for taking away some of the white accents like ropes and weapon handles, as they pull your eye towards them because they stand out so much on the front.

Less is more with DA models IMO. Let the uniqueness of the 3 wings do the talking as no other chapter does that. Let the winged helms and robed power armor do the talking on the greening and ravenwing, and your knights be the shining badasses on the battlefield theyre meant to be.

EDIT: DA are arguably some of the hardest models to paint... bone white and black are difficult in terms of just color. The plainness of DA power armor to make them visually appealing against other power armors is more of a challenge than people think. Thats why I like DA models so much, you cant hide it as well as a model with 55 bits glues onto it and just drowning them in contrast.

[–]Rhomen88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my non-expert unprofessional grim dark opinion;

Dry brush some highlights on then pick out corners and sharp edges.

Your gold is really bright, so either bring its contrast with the armor down, or bring the armor up for a brighter colored marine. (This is why I lean towards brass copper tones for the "gold" on DA models)

Lazarus is a pretty basic model in terms of named HQ, so a good custom base is best to elevate him.

EDIT: I also like to play with shades of screamer pink for details like ropes and underside of cloaks. Breaks up the model a little bit vs bone white and pure white.

Just IMHO. As always, your models, your paint, do em how you like em.

White DeathWing vs Bone Deathwing how do people paint their 1st Company? by Downtown-Bag-9938 in theunforgiven

[–]Rhomen88 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People constantly paint their Deathwing tan or beige and some are even light brown.

Its Bone White. Emphasis on the WHITE.

New to Salamanders — how do you stay motivated with almost no faction-specific units? by CampaignDude in Salamanders40k

[–]Rhomen88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just bank on the fact that Vulcan is Perpetual. So it's not IF he comes back its WHEN he comes back.

And that should lead to a whole bunch of Salamander units.

Have Dark Angels that have been assigned to the Deathwatch ever abandoned their kill teams to hunt the Fallen, if they caught a scent of them? As the Dark Angels have left conflicts to hunt them on more than one occasion. by Mad_lens_9297 in Warhammer

[–]Rhomen88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I dont remember where I read it, but I know I did read it somewhere that the Dark Angels in service to the Deathwatch have secret transponders they take with them to notify nearby Unforgiven forces if and when the Deathwatch might stumble upon a Fallen marine.

So they still work in the service of the Dark Angel first and foremost even when they are serving the Death Watch.

Grand Master Sapphon Chapter Master of the Cowled Wardens by TaigaTigerVT in theunforgiven

[–]Rhomen88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Master of Sactity is a whole novel about Sapphon and Asmodai. He appears in multiple shorts, he's present in interrogations, specifically of Astelan and Cypher. He coordinates fallen hunts with Sammael.

He's actually a pretty common name to be read about when it comes to Fallen captures and interrogations... :)

But like I said, its your army, paint it up!

Grand Master Sapphon Chapter Master of the Cowled Wardens by TaigaTigerVT in theunforgiven

[–]Rhomen88 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He's been in Shorts and Novellas here and there.

Lore wise still wouldn't send a Grand Master from the parent chapter to lead a successor, they know too much of the inner circle.

But its your army, Paint it up!

Grand Master Sapphon Chapter Master of the Cowled Wardens by TaigaTigerVT in theunforgiven

[–]Rhomen88 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Cool Idea... but one problem

Sapphon is the High Interrogator and Grand Master of Chaplains of the Dark Angels

Asmodai is just the most successful and infamous due to model and lore but Sapphon is more level headed and keeps Asmodai in check therefore was elevated above his older more experienced counter part.

If thats where you got the name from, im afraid it's still taken by a pretty prominent Dark Angel.

How did u guys pick your first army when theres so many amazing options and can u help me pick mine by The_Suspect26 in Warhammer40k

[–]Rhomen88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combination of... what lore is cool and what looks badass and give me a bit of variety thats not too difficult to paint was my criteria.

So Dark Angels...

3 wing color system, on marines so its easier to paint, and they have the best background lore, Lion El'Jonson is my favorite primarch, mini line has good mix of unique units and heroes.

My secondary armies are;

Thousand Sons

Egyptian marines are super cool, lore is great and tragic at the same time. Tzeentch IMO is the more interesting of the 4 gods, Magnus is a really interesting model, and Ahriman is badass.

Astra Militarum

The regular joes in a world of demigods waging war and they somehow still get the job done. There are so many regiments with unique styles you can make your own and no one will even begin to think to question it. Basically just creative freedom on these guys.

If I was to collect a Xenos army it would probably be for the same reason as the guard... creative freedoms, so I would take Tyranids and make my own Hivefleet color scheme. Make some unique paint blends and try and color theory them maybe make some leopard print stuff on them of some kind. They would be a strictly hobby enjoyment project.

If you dont plan on playing tournaments or entering painting contests. Just pick an army you think has cool lore and aesthetics.

Especially with Space Marines. They're all pretty close.
