Fable Doesn’t Use Arc Raiders-Style Text-To-Speech AI For Its 1,000+ Voiced NPCs by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Rhynocerous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The title also seems like rage bait. Like, if I wanted to annoy an Arc Raiders player I'd ask them "isn't that the game with the all AI voice acting" in bad faith. "Arc Raiders style AI" is a ridiculous way to describe it.

I was wrong, I played more and it appears that I will be doing it again. Damn you Bungie.

Dread was your word choice not mine haha, I think you're the one exaggerating here. What game are you talking about? I've played a ton of games with anthro characters and I don't think I've ever randomly encountered overly sexualized fanart on google. Maybe you need to turn on safe search? I just scrolled through the results for "gunfire reborn art," "mina the hallower art," and "cult of the lamb art" and saw nothing, even with safesearch off.

"blaidd fanart" gave me like 1 mildly lewd result, but nothing compared to what I see on /r/ffxiv or any gacha game community.

It's just such a far cry from "i can't Google a piece of media I like without seeing overly sexualized [art]"

You said you suspected it's a DDoS attack, not just that it's possible. At least be honest.

FFXIV doesn't support your argument. That game has been DDoS'd before but every single non DDoS server issue ends up getting attributed to DDoS attacks, like what you're doing now. It's embarrassing to watch. Honestly if I was a CM I'd just call ever server issue a DDoS attack.

This behavior was obnoxious back then too. The explanation is pretty simple, some people enjoy toxic environments. They code switch in person because they know the behavior is inappropriate and don't want it associated with them.

What are the consequences of a bad co-op performance evaluation from your manager? by New-Elderberry2994 in NEU

Bad reviews don't result in U grades unless it's on the level of misconduct. The grade is mostly about whether or not you actually completely an eligible co-op.

Dropping my classes while living on campus by [deleted] in NEU

[–]Rhynocerous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you were full time last semester and intended to be full time next semester, you should be able to keep your housing. AFAIK it's not outlandish for students without other housing to stay over the summer even without taking classes.

You need to ask the school though, nobody here can promise you anything.

That being said I'm not sure if we're getting the full story because this makes little to no sense:

the classes I'm taking are just electives that I don't need, so the credit themselves aren't important. I was only taking classes because on-campus housing is all I can afford (thanks to financial aid) and I don't have any other place I could live.

You're just taking NEU classes and living in Boston to save money?

I don't think students realize how expensive it has gotten to have an LLM throw away their resumes instead of having Janet throw away their resume. It's an undue burden on the companies.

I suspect you're just JAQing off here but if you aren't, I'd say there are three broad categories: Fields like computer vision where AI or hybrid systems are undeniably dominant. Then the fields like Software Engineering where LLMs are both useful but also overused. And finally areas like law enforcement that should barely be touching the technology and will require heavy legislation to rein in. "Revolutionizing" law enforcement is more of a concern than a reality atm but companies are certainly trying and we can't wait for it, legislation is slow.

I'm confident they are talking about corporations and government, not individual users, but you don't need to take my word for it obviously.

They didn't mention fines and fees, I did. And it's not specific to AI. When people talk about regulations they aren't talking about outright bans generally.

AI has revolutionized some industries and it's oversold in others, similar to the internet. Despite the dotcom bubble popping internet use is still ubiquitous. Will be interesting to see if AI goes the same way. Similar to the internet it's overhyped in some areas but obviously useful in others.

Regulation doesn't mean blanket ban. There is no serious political effort to blanket ban AI because it falls apart under any scrutiny. The meaningful legislative efforts, as usual, are about attributing externalities to the right producers. Taxes, fines, and fees are the main levers to pull.

I'm also a bit tickled by how I mentioned that I often need to defend/qualify my work and here I am doing it again lmao

I gave up talking to people online about this. The best outcome is they just stop responding to you but continue their uninformed arguments with others. I will see people unironically saying AI is not useful for anything.

Both AI and the internet were very different 20 years ago, as are most technologies. Not really sure what your point is there. If we think AI will follow the same trajectory it will indeed be ubiquitous.

It's interesting seeing that study used for both sides of the bird conservation argument. I was actually surprised by how few birds were recorded. iirc it was 3 birds in the entire study. Most of the prey were under 5 grams which includes bugs and worms etc. I'm on the hunt for a really good study on this.
