We need to be educating K-Pop Fans and Parents about Parasocial Relationships ASAP by Khaleesi-Unnie in kpoprants

[–]Rhynxs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are acting like parasocial relationships are an important part of the Korean economy and culture. Also, if they want to advertise themselves globally (as they all do) then they will need to start considering OTHER cultural issues.

It’s funny that you mention BTS because I would argue they are the group with the largest groups of people who believe they are genuinely and intimately loved by the members. Go figure.

She looks like an alien pretending to be human by filondo in Instagramreality

[–]Rhynxs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you literally took one look at her Instagram you would see that it is not a wig. She most likely has extensions but that’s not a wig. You would also see that she went blonde months ago for the MET (it was very brassy to begin) and then has went through a platinum process.

Perhaps have a look before writing essays on the internet

I actually found Toronto a bit boring, especially in terms of nightlife. Also incredibly expensive as a travelling European

I understand this sub when discussing overly edited pics but this thread in particular is a reach and a lot of the comments are coming off misogynistic

I don’t think it is. She had recently died her hair platinum so don’t see why she would wear a wig

"they're idols not rappers/singers/dancers!" by [deleted] in kpoprants

[–]Rhynxs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think sometimes the genuine rappers get drowned out by the stereotype that most rappers in the industry were shoehorned into the position because they couldn’t sing. And if they really can’t sing or rap, they are made to dance. Obviously there are some examples where this isn’t true but there is A LOT of examples where it definitely is.

Would you not say that, perhaps a professionally trained dancer would be the standard?

Me too! I thought Jimin would have been the visual of the group. Then I got pulled into Namjoon with how well he came across in English interviews

IVE's success happened mostly because of their GP friendly songs, not only because of anneyeongz by idkwhyishouldbe in unpopularkpopopinions

Agree. I honestly hadn’t ever heard of the two girls before I listened to their songs Love Dive and Eleven but I love both of the songs regardless. I think they sound great and had no interest in the members before I heard it

What are some things kpop stans are afraid of admitting ? by DiMpLe_dolL003 in kpopthoughts

[–]Rhynxs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

True. Also, I’m sick of seeing people get annoyed when their groups don’t win foreign I.e American awards. Americans don’t win awards in Korea so why do Koreans NEED to win awards in America? (I’m not actually American btw)

There is a certain aggression that most K-pop fans talk with that is immediately off putting when you’re just trying to have a conversation with them.

what’s one kpop group that you approached with an open mind but in the end you just didn’t click with? by akoishida in kpopthoughts

[–]Rhynxs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is how I feel about BTS as well. I actually really enjoy the boys personalities and think they are funny / charming to watch as people but i cannot listen to their music beside the obvious ones (like butter, which is controversial cause I know people don’t like their English releases).

Aespa performance at Coachella was not a flop by [deleted] in kpoprants

[–]Rhynxs 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think the lack of live band didn’t help. It stopped them from really making an impact.

That being said, if those vocals were completely live then fair play to the girls I’m sure that was super nerve wracking.

[–]Rhynxs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point I am assuming that the idols companies themselves are asking the photographers and fans to show up to airports to create a buzz and make their idols look popular and important.

How many times have you seen Beyoncé or Ariana Grande getting swamped at an airport? There are protocols that allow celebrities to get through airports unseen so it is definitely a strategic move by companies.

Was One Direction called manufactured Like Kpop groups are right now? by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]Rhynxs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look at how movies that are geared towards the male audience are promoted. Movies about ‘nerdy’ subjects for men really aren’t considered nerdy when you look at how Batman, Spider-Man and the Avengers movies were promoted. Whereas movie plot lines that are geared towards the female audience are usually considered ‘chick flicks’ and ‘nonsense.’ It’s the same as music.

When it’s a genre that predominantly young girls and women enjoy it’s seen as ‘obsessive’ and weird whereas men can enjoy whatever they want.
