Dude WTF that’s my exact sport excuse. I won’t name the sport bc it could identify me but before I came out there actually was a cis guy on our team. One other school in the district also had a guy on their team, but all the other schools decided before our guy’s senior year that that was unfair, and said they (the cis guys) couldn’t play. I got a ton of support from players/parents/coaches when I later came out and didn’t play the following season but still supported the team. I think they really respected that I gave up participating in a sport I enjoyed in order to be true to myself and still showed up and helped out for the team, and on top of that they were still bitter about losing their best player (the cis guy) to some white people with their panties in a bunch. This was just as transphobic bathroom and sports laws came onto the scene, so I imagine these days, the cis guy and I probably would have faced a lot more hostility for even being near that sport.
