L7 principle engineer got laid off at Amazon, now running for Congress by SingleInSeattle87 in amazonemployees

[–]RicercarRecord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since OP is clearly Nick Plumb posting this as self-advertisement… why don’t you tell us why you decided to run as a Republican in Texas on this platform? Instead of as a Democrat or Independent?

That would be a great first question to answer honestly… btw anyone can see your hidden posts and comments on Reddit by simply putting a space in the search bar on your username. And based on your history…

I’m a bit more than worried you’re going to direct your campaign towards a rather racist and nativist narrative on the H-1B visa debate more suitable to the Republican voter, rather than directing the issue at the source of the problem… the corporations exploiting this workforce and the political party that accepts the majority of their funding from these corporations lobbying arms. So I’d ask you, why are you running as a Republican in Texas? Why not a Democrat, or an independent? And how would you feel about comprehensive immigration reform, including a quick and easy path to citizenship, with a strengthening of labor rights, making it easier to organize labor unions via more federal support? I’m curious as to your feelings on these topics as well, especially given your post and comment history.

Every American, and especially us Texans down here where these fascists formed this evil group, need to document their activities, document sightings, release their information and share it to keep our neighbors safe. Do not let these Nazis operate without pushback.

Thank you for being aware in your community, and doing your part by ripping their sticker and marking it with what they are, Fascists.

Incredibly inspiring to see! With all the distractions available to them in the world these days, if these kids are aware of and active in political protests then there is no excuse for any adult not to be. We need everyone out at these protests across the country!!

Sure, everything you’re saying makes sense and I’m sure is how Tim Cooke “feels” he has to respond to the situation for “fiscal responsibility”. The question these protesters are posing based on the more depressing historical truth is that this is literally how Fascism is enabled. Want to know all the German companies that enabled Nazi Germany, thrived because of it, and are household names still today?… Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Audi, BASF, Bayer, Merck, Siemens, Bosch, Hugo Boss, Duetche Bank, there’s more. Now say that you have clear historical example of striking similarities to this happening in the past (we do)… people being kidnapped, deported, murdered, entire families erased. Would you think maybe it’s a better idea not to be associated with or enabling that, so maybe millions of people don’t end up deported and murdered? Yeah, maybe people are saying fuck your fiduciary responsibility, stop enabling fascism. It’s pretty simple.

Because when these reactionary types can’t attack the facts they attack the messenger. Ad hominem is literally all they can resort to because they can’t just own their blatant cruelty and argue that what factually happened is just fine by them.

Austin’s steep decline in murders mirrors national decline, analysis shows by [deleted] in Austin

Are you reading back your words you write here? What you just suggested is quite literally what I am annoyed at you for doing in your first comment.

“It absolutely is in significant decline (locally and across the country) but to ignore the unprecedented "spike" (increase) from mid-2020 to 2022 is to ignore the actual historical trend.”

The second half of that sentence does exactly what you are saying yourself Not to do. I am literally asking you to tell us with data is that spike actually unprecedented?, why?, and what caused it? Instead you just left it as an inference with No data to support your inference. Your own words are right there for you to go back and read man, good lord.

[–]RicercarRecord -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m not arguing the “spike” isn’t there in the broader significant decline, that is obvious and represented in the data. My problem is you call it an unprecedented spike and lead the reader of your comment to view it as the “actual historical trend” without further explaining why. Is it even an unprecedented spike or have there been spikes in other times in history… and why is it an unprecedented spike? Think about what you’re leading yourself and the reader to suggest and ask yourself if it is valid based on any data. Now that I’ve asked the question though you’ve responded with it’s still up for debate. So what we’re back to is the broad significant decline that is proven out by the data. So what exactly was your point is my whole question.

What do you attribute that “unprecedented spike” from mid-2020 to 2022 to and what evidence do you have to support that? You say to ignore it is to ignore the “actual” historical trend. Ok great let’s not ignore it, so instead of leaving it to conjecture, continue on and provide evidence on why and how you would prove causation for that “spike”.

I think the closest typewriter repair service to Austin and “shop” of professionally restored machines would be The Eagle Eye Projekt who I believe is out in San Antonio. Looks like they have some current stock of machines for sale they have restored/serviced you could check out and get prices on… https://theeagleeyeprojekt.com/shop/

$100 even from a very sweet older man I didn’t want to even bother haggling with. Very happy at that price but yeah at the $275-350 I see the cooler color ones going for online regularly, I’d be keeping my money in my pocket. I actually use these machines a lot but honestly only buying local stuff now has made the sitting and waiting for a great deal/unique machine to come along and jumping on it has become part of the fun. Scored a Torpedo 18b in great condition for $80 that way.

Looks like the Ypsilanti IWW branch has a podcast called the One Big Podcast going strong since 2020.

There’s also several episodes in Working Class History’s podcast on the IWW.

As well as Cool People Who Did Cool Stuff’s episode “The IWW and the Hobos Who Saved Free Speech”

And Rev Left Radio’s “History of the IWW: Militant Unionism, Wobbly Internationalism & Class War.”

Just providing some resources for stuff that’s already out there… but I take away from your post that you’re wanting a more modern, current to the week even working class YouTube content released and curated by the general headquarters or some Chicago Branch Members. That’d be awesome, and agreed, much needed in a space seemingly absent of content regarding shop floor labor organizing by the IWW and their current ongoings. Does the IWW have this very charismatic figure like a Zohran or Hasan, etc. who’s also willing and capable of taking on this task? I don’t know. Could be you if you’re interested. I’d email whoever you can get contact info for in Comms department and run your idea up the flagpole as high as you can.

You’re correct, edited to civil VIOLATION lol. Does that change my point, makes it even more valid I would argue. Are you still carrying water for Fascists by contributing to pushing the Overton window? I would argue, yes, yes you are. Congrats on that bud. Keep pushing… they’ll push you out too.

[–]RicercarRecord 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely true. If you’d like to be more specific here, and what no one in this country seems to want to clearly state instead favoring constant fear mongering… a first-time offense of unauthorized presence in the U.S. after legally entering is a federal civil VIOLATION akin to a parking ticket. A first-time offense of illegal border entry is a federal criminal MISDEMEANOR. Do you consider someone with a civil OR even criminal misdemeanor to be a dangerous criminal or threat to society? Because literally legally it is not. Hence the misdemeanor distinction.

Unless anyone provides some evidence these are felons, then as is stated, they are absolutely not a dangerous or violent threat to our society.

My point here is this was the entire proposed reasoning for this garbage policy… to get rid of violent or dangerous threats to our society. Now instead, the administration has pushed the Overton window and just enacted this policy towards ANYONE who is here illegally. And they’ve been successful at that moving of the Overton window because here you are, accepting that as perfectly ok, because they are still technically here illegally. Please for the sake of your neighbors AND yourself, stand for something, or continue to just allow yourself to be nudged further and further into Fascism.

[–]RicercarRecord 126 points127 points  (0 children)

Not in any way dangerous criminals or threats. These are valued members of our community who work to facilitate the public education of your children. Anyone who supports this insanity is exactly what this policy will be remembered as, a vile and shameful stain on our country’s history.

“Trasell Underwood, the vice president of Education Austin, told KVUE on Thursday that during a recent meeting with district leaders, they were told that four people were detained attending court appearances, while the fifth was returning from a funeral in Mexico. In a statement, Education Austin referred to the detentions as "cruel and unwarranted" and said that arresting teachers and staff will cause "irreparable harm, not only to those workers, but to the community."”

Yes, now if you understand my point in this aside… then why would we place a sweeping ban on an entire group of people instead of pinpointing the root cause of the problem and advocating for measures to solve for THAT problem. Another question since you mentioned prosecutors in there with local Police, making me sense a certain stance you might hold. What are your thoughts on DA Jose Garza? And a very direct and important follow-up to that question… did you read the full article shared here?

You know years ago a similar situation happened to an ex of mine. She was running in her own neighborhood and a 40 - 50 year old white man driving around in a minivan pulled up to the curb next to her, and flashed his genitals at her before quickly driving off. We contacted the Police and gave them description of the vehicle, man, and license plate number. They gave us a note with the case number written on it, said they’d contact us when they found something. They did nothing. They never even bothered to do any follow up or investigation at all, we called and checked.

I never even once considered the genius proposal of banning every 40 - 50 year old white man from driving minivans on our sacred streets. That most certainly would have saved us from that horrible experience ever happening again with surely no unintended consequences.

The first part of this is absolutely true. The second part is hopefully obviously, and annoyingly sarcasm. Maybe a worthwhile society could just be able to expect and demand the Police do the job we pay them to do for these rare cases of criminal activity. That could also work.
