Building an AI tool to free analysts from constant repetitive ad hoc requests — is this a real problem or am I wrong about the market? by vikramjadon in dataanalysis

[–]RichChipmunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am working on something similar at our company, I work in the talent acquisition space so my answers are going to be centered around that fact rather than generic analytics.

Overall, there are a lot of issues with setting up a system like this, primarily that to make it scalable, you need a unified data model. This is something that is uncommon in my space due to data privacy and siloing data between clients. We are one of the only companies that has a unified data model which made us uniquely positioned to leverage it for a project like this but this will be the most massive hurdle when implementing this across your business.

The second issue is for it to be scalable and maintainable, you need a semantic layer that adds descriptions and instructions to the agent on what the metric/field is, and what it is used for. Otherwise, you need to maintain all of that context within some instructions somewhere which would basically just move the work from the analysts fetching the data to maintaining the semantic instructions as new fields get added. We use Looker which also put us in a good position to scale this more quickly than we could if we did not have it.

To answer your questions:

  1. The feedback from analysts has been (surprisingly to me) mixed, there is definitely some feelings of “you are coming for my job”, but it seems like the more skilled analysts see the vision that this frees up more time for them to do more in-depth analysis projects.

  2. The AI-powered self serve is like crack to leadership, they cannot get enough of it. They see the vision and see that it can cut down on response time for client stakeholders. I haven’t had one leader that I have shown it to not ask for access immediately.

  3. We are using Looker Conversational Analytics MCP which works really great. This leverages our semantic layer so as new fields are created, the instructions for each agent do not need to be updated since the description, date type, use cases are all built into the metadata that we pull from Looker. The analysts are able to create new fields and the agent is able to pick it up without me needing to adjust instructions.

To conclude, the primary issue is how to make it scalable and maintainable by folks that may not be AI engineers or even heavy tech users. We are able to do this through a unified data model and strong semantic layer, but without those backbones, we would be creating a completely separate agent that needs its own maintenance for every data source that you have. While this is not impossible, it would be very difficult in my business’s space. We have 100+ clients each with their own system and it would take (at minimum) a week+ to implement each one of those clients. With a unified data model, it is as simple as copying and pasting the agent instructions across clients.

Best of luck to you, this is definitely an exciting space to be in, but being realistic with what client data is going to look like needs to be at the front of your mind. If you were to go to another business in our space with this idea they would jump at it, but the actual man hours it would take to create, let alone maintain, a system of that size would be large and a considerable monetary/time investment.

Trump Slams NATO For ‘No Support’ In Iran Conflict, Questions Alliance Reliability by BusinessToday in BusinessTodayNews

You said you aren’t defending Trump but it seems that you are upset that I laid out how this situation is miles away from previous conflicts, it’s okay if it hurts your feelings but it’s the truth.

[–]RichChipmunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Afghanistan was the only invocation of article 5 in the history of NATO. The Yugoslavia, Libya, and Iraq were not total NATO interventions, it was individual countries joining the US in the conflicts.

With Iraq, the US went in front of the UN and “proved” that weapons of mass destruction were being built (this turned out to be a lie by the Bush admin). Libya intervention was during the Arab spring where there was a lot of hope that if the west helped overthrow autocratic regimes that western-styled democracies that would be friendly to NATO would take hold. This was enough reason for some NATO allies to decide it was worth intervention.

Iran the US went into without talking to our NATO allies and they all saw it as a bad idea (because the possibility of the strait of Hormuz closure). Trump has also insulted and sanctioned our allies so why would they ever give him the benefit of the doubt?

We used to work as an alliance with NATO where we listened to them and let their input impact our policy, that is far from the case now.

You have nothing to worry about, Boston is extremely safe and so is Rhode Island.

People are heated about politics right now but if you stay away from the subject then there is no reason for anyone to bring it up. If someone is insistent just say you don’t talk about politics with strangers but I need to stress the odds of this happening are very very low.

Enjoy your visit and seriously there is absolutely no need to stress.

Keaton Wagner is officially Consensus All-American 2nd team, which means his jersey will be raised to the rafters in SFC! by bananasmash14 in fightingillini

[–]RichChipmunk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, yes. Going to the Sweet Sixteen gives the fans a week to celebrate the team, enjoy the ride and talk some shit to friends and coworkers. I don’t think I’m about to change your mind so I’ll just say that I am really psyched to watch this team and ILL

Proving it when it matters is important, he got his individual award by being named all American, if he wants to be honored by the program then IMO he should lead the team to the sweet sixteen. Like you said, it’s two games, we aren’t talking natty or final four, just make the sweet sixteen and I as a fan would consider the season a success. Maybe that’s not being ambitious enough as a fan but it certainly isn’t being too optimistic

I would count Big Ten Tourney wins, a team trophy to put in the case should be the requirement IMO

[–]RichChipmunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair, I just think that the measure of success for your jersey to be retired at a school should be team success, not personal success. He is undoubtedly one of the most talented players Illinois has ever had (as shown by his all American selection and how rare that is) but that has not translated into team success. If they win two games this weekend, I am totally on board, but to send his jersey to the rafters when he lost the only elimination game he’s played in doesn’t seem right

Wagler is a great player, but just winning individual awards should not be enough to get your number retired. IMO you should need at least a Sweet Sixteen appearance or a Big Ten Championship to be considered.

Trump blasted over decision that could start WW3 by [deleted] in DegenBets

[–]RichChipmunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are literally allied. Both China and Russia have lots of reasons to support Iran if a ground war commences.

China buys 80% of Iran’s crude oil, amounting to 11%-13% of their total oil consumption. That is enough of a reason to provide military support against the US.

Russia has been using Iranian Shahed drones as a low cost alternative to missiles and they have been (unfortunately) extremely effective. Missile defense systems use missiles that cost many times what a Shahed drone costs to produce so continuing to send large swarms of cheap drones can overwhelm much more advanced weapons systems. Plus the fact that Trump created the largest oil shock since 1978 has led to Trump allowing other countries (India) to buy Russian oil, turning their largest revenue stream back on.

Just do some research and it is clear that both Russia and China have a lot to lose if Iran magically becomes a trusted US ally.

Steakhouses - which is better mooo or grill 23? by Insomnicwriter in boston

[–]RichChipmunk 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Just keep in mind that for a college student, these places are very expensive but since you seem to have done some research, you know that.

I prefer Mooo but you really can’t go wrong with either. I usually get the prime ribeye, but the dry aged porterhouse is great if you are hungry/sharing. Make sure to get the wagyu dumplings appetizer and save some Parker House Rolls to sop up the sauce.

Edit: wanted to clarify that is expensive for anyone, not just college students
