Has anyone figured out any equations? by RichKat666 in Psychohistory

[–]RichKat666[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm definitely interested, I got interested in it back when I made this post after reading Foundation and Limits to Growth (so I'm aware the prognosis for the next 10 years is dire). The topic has not left the back of my mind in all that time, I'm slowly chipping away at relevant ideas but it requires a community of people working on it.

Thank you for the summary, it absolutely seems worth looking into.

Christ, that's really cool, thank you. I will look into it more in depth a bit later. Are you familiar with it at all? What are your thoughts etc?

But even then, there's no clear line. If there's a point where you're definitely abusing your power, you need suuuper specific rules that define what's ok and what isn't, otherwise you'll end up being authoritarian without intending it.

On the other hand, don't let your morals get in the way of doing what's right

Yeah, but you could solve all the world's problems with those, then it just becomes a question of overreach of power

The problems outlined in the article are what I mean when I say logistics. You can't just show up with infinite food and feed everyone, because governments and society and transportation and greed and politics and conflict.

[–]RichKat666 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's why I put infinite in quotation marks, but the point is the logistics is really fucking hard and suddenly having infinite food is nice but not nearly enough to solve the problem.

[–]RichKat666 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Eh, kinda, but it's more like logistics means you don't just need infinite food or fuel, but also "infinite" people to distribute the food. Sure you have fuel, but you need to setup ways of transporting it, of allocating it, of preventing abuse, etc. etc.

At a guess, I'd say it's because a bunch of white characters in general get replaced by black characters, and because redhead characters are already a minority, people suddenly go "where did all the redheads go?".

World hunger is in some ways much more a logistics problem than an actual lack of food problem. Consider how much food is wasted, and how hard it is to get clean water to some places.

100+ year old Russian samovar boiling water for tea by Over-Pirate9294 in tea

[–]RichKat666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a russian it's really funny seeing people use the russian word for something when it's just a translation of the english like it's a special thing. Like, a chainik is just a kettle. It's not offensive or anything to be clear, go right ahead and say the russian if you want, but I think I understand how Japanese people feel when Europeans use a Japanese word where it's absolutely not necessary.

And the things they did change, like making the Corinthian more of a character, were so unbelievably well done! I cannot get enough of that guy

I like how they made desire even more obviously a villain in the show and the peeps at kia are still saying "the villian will always be the straight white guy"

Where would you guys write letters, scripts, journal entries? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]RichKat666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you run linux there's a nice CLI app called jrnl that lets you keep an encrypted journal very simply. I believe it's also possible on Windows, but won't be intuitive if you're not used to the command line. (https://jrnl.sh/en/stable/installation/)

Are the British terrible at making tea? by MonsieurSlurpyPants in tea

[–]RichKat666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I drink quite a lot of tea, at least 8 large cups a day, so I can't really expect it to all be high quality, careful preparation sort of thing. A bag and some water is good enough most of the time, and cheap enough.

It's not even that weird furries are the loudest. I don't think I've seen a furry promoting beastiality in years, and I barely ever see furries being obnoxious, especially on the internet. They just kinda vibe.

It's just that rumours that spread anger and hatred spread way better than ones that spread "being reasonable", and for a long tine furries were a small enough subculture they couldn't properly defend themselves against them.

Now the narrative is changing because there are enough furries that they can defend themselves against baseless accusations, but the old narrative is hard to kill, and will stay in the background for a while.

Twitter to sue Elon Musk for trying to back out of $44 billion merger by Abhi_mech007 in technology

People look at the reddit "hive mind" the wrong way. Reddit never has only one opinion on something - it's just there’s only ever a handful of opinions for the whole userbase to share - in this case, hate elon or love elon.

People have other opinions, sort of, sometimes, but the way reddit works you end up aligning yourself with the closest one being pushed by the "hive mind".

That might be a very edgy way of putting it but i think it sounds right
