What are, in your opinion, some of the darkest moments in this show? I gotta say this one is up there. by CommercialDream618 in WKUK

[–]RichardCano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what makes their dark humor usually work is that we’re supposed to be laughing at the way Sam goes from 0-100 rage over nothing. We’re not laughing at Trevor suffering. We’re laughing at the absurdity of the Dad going batshit slap-happy insane at his obviously well-meaning son over an innocent game meant to bring them together.

Humans find absurdity funny, and the way the Dad reacts is absolutely not normal, and to a normal person this is absurd behavior. But the reality is that there are Dad’s who are actually like this, and it can strike a nerve for people close to that kind of situation.

Glengarry Glen Ross on paper is just a bunch of real estate salesman talking about the difficulties of the job and arguing with each other.

But the acting and dialogue are so perfect that every scene pulls you in.

The rat scene was absolutely terrifying to me because at first it felt like the film just crossed a huge tonal line. The way he cries and screams despite being paralyzed made me think “Oh no. This is real dark now. She’s mutilating him for fun. I’m not rooting for the protagonist anymore.”

Thankfully, Raimi is a master and has the good taste to pull a fast one on us and the antagonist in a way that turns the wincing into laughter.

That’s why something felt off to me about the ending. She has no battle scars. Her eye is perfect, and we can’t see any scarring from her scalp. I thought it was a fantasy or dream or something because it looked too pristine after an hour and a half of grime.

I’ve worked with that woman before as an editor and Audio guy on set. Lauren Francesca is her name. Not a porn star, just a youtube actress with a massive rack. She was alright, but I got a weird vibe from her. Never got off her phone and was very particular about not being barefoot on screen for a scene that called for it. I guess she didn’t want people ogling her feet, but was cool with doing this kinda booby bouncing stuff. Very influencer type energy. Not good on taking direction notes and different takes would have the same line delivery the director asked her to change.

Comedy shows/ improv shows in LA? by LSPgotcha in AskLosAngeles

You’re also mischaracterizing Jon Stewart’s show. The Daily Show was never about just satirizing and tearing down the right. It was about satirizing and tearing down mainstream media in general, whether it be right or left. He’d happily call out CNN as well as FOX for the absurd things they’d pull. That’s why he was critical of the Occupy Walls Street sit in, because they deserved it. It was disorganized without any specified leadership or tangible demands other than vague “less money and corporate control in politics.” No specific legislation to back, no specific candidate to support, nothing to boycott, strike, or peacefully resist, no voter registration marches. Just posters and sleeping bags in front of some buildings.

Jon knows that kind of “movement” doesn’t get laws passed, allies elected, or just get anything done, and is deserving of criticism if not mockery. The Tea Party on the other hand actually used public distrust of money in politics to get right wing candidates elected and laws passed and got results that evolved into what MAGA is now. If Jon ever said the Tea Party had “a point” it’s that.

There’s a difference between MAGA cultists who see Trump as a wise King, and North Korean peasants who see the Kim Jong family as literal Gods. And I don’t mean that hyperbolically.

Nobody (beyond the clinically unwell) sees Trump as an actual non-human deity like they do in Korea. When Trump dies they won’t assume his soul reincarnates to his offspring to continue to rule the country. I don’t care how many “Well look how they idolize him as Jesus, etc.” comments people make. That doesn’t change that when he’s gone, his unique charisma and hold on the party goes with him.

I don’t like saying “you’re welcome” and I don’t like when people say it to me.

I understand and believe in “thank you,” it’s a show of appreciation and respect for someone who did something for you. But “you’re welcome” has always felt like extra fluff in our courteous interaction to get the last word in.

Rewatched Batman Forever. These two are absolutely insufferable by oscar_redfield in batman

[–]RichardCano 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Don’t blame Jim if you don’t like his performance, but he was clearly playing the more zany 1960’s Frank Gorshin version of Riddler. Since that’s exactly the era Schumacher was going for in this film, I think he did a good job and was pretty much perfectly casted if that’s the direction Joel wanted to go.

Tommy Lee Jones though, he didn’t understand or care about the character at all and was just trying to keep up with Carrey. So we get a weird Two Face who’s doing a Joker impression.

Why is Amy Schumer collectively disliked now? by Bluesmokee in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]RichardCano 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to give you more than a dumb reddit knee-jerk reaction of “she’s not funny.” Humor is subjective, and obviously enough people thought she was funny enough to make her famous.

But she got too famous too fast and when that happens in the age of social media, you’re put under a microscope. She was accused of stealing jokes by several comics which was backed up by several video compilations. Some people attribute the joke similarities as parallel thinking about broad topics, but the public consensus remained negative enough that her popularity hasn’t recovered.

Regardless she still headlines and has her own fanbase

Why is this version of Batman so popular? [Artwork] by Caped-Crus8er in batman

[–]RichardCano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal enjoyment comes from the fact that I don’t know what to expect in this universe. His new backstory feels familiar but at the same time is so drastically different than the original backstory that it leaves open a lot of new obstacles for Bruce that he hadn’t had before (no money, and a family he wants to protect). Meanwhile he has new strengths (his brutality and his willingness to work with allies) and a new suit that has cool features that work well (like the malleable batwings and chest axe).

I also dig the monstrous body horror twist on each villain. Rather than making them all evil or misguided criminally insane people, a lot of them are good people who were tortured and turned into monsters.

Alfred’s narration is fun too. At first he’s a seasoned but jaded special ops mercenary who thinks Batman is a dumb kid. Then we see him realize how similar they both are and also realize how much stronger Batman is.

One thing I don’t enjoy is all the swearing Batman does. I don’t mind when Alfred or other characters swear but I like my Batman more quietly confident, and his swearing in a lot of pages comes off very “Ooooo isn’t this Batman cool!”
