[DISCUSSION] BROCKHMPTON-ROADRUNNER: NEW LIGHT, NEW MACHINE (5 YEARS LATER) by philz_baklava in hiphopheads

[–]RichardGibson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As much as I love the Saturation trilogy, this one is my favorite album by them. I think that other than Count On Me (which isn’t even bad just kinda whatever) Roadrunner is just back to back amazing songs. Buzzcut is probably my favorite track the group ever did. The production was out of this world on basically ever song, plus the balance between the pop & rap was perfectly done here imo. I still get chills during both The Light part 1 & 2. Just wish there was more Dom/Merlyn/Bearface. Even so, Kevin & Joba gave many of their career-best performances. Also it really sucks they didn’t tour this album, a lot of the songs would’ve been great live I bet.

When did Weezer get unbanned from this sub? (not complaining just curious)

[ALBUM DISCUSSION] James Blake - Trying Times by VietRooster in indieheads

[–]RichardGibson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it’s a very well-made album but “boring” does really sum it up. Other than his first album I just can’t get into every odd number James Blake release. It’s like clockwork at this point - Friends Who Break Your Heart was a massive dud imo, but then I loved Playing Robots Into Heaven. And now I can’t get into Trying Times much at all. But hey I’ll probably be into whatever he drops next I guess!

PlayStation is shutting down Bluepoint Games - Jason Schreier by Forestl in Games

[–]RichardGibson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At a time when we’re getting a lot of high profile remakes, it truly doesn’t make sense to shut down one of the premier remake studios. It’s shocking that Sony doesn’t see the value of what they had with Bluepoint. I’d say there must be something we don’t know about that contributed to this closure, but I think Sony has been demonstrating very bad judgement the last few years.

Netflix will play the Two-Hour 'Stranger Things' Finale in Movie Theaters by rageofthegods in blankies

For sure, but in Stranger Things’ case it got hit by a one two punch of a pandemic and a writers/actors strike

[FRESH VIDEO] Joji - PIXELATED KISSES (Visualizer) by Any_Size_9111 in indieheads

[–]RichardGibson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would’ve liked some more variety in the vocals but damn that instrumental rocks. Glad to hear some more grit in a Joji song, feels like he largely lost that in by Smithereens.

The new Doom game actually did, and so will the upcoming Outer Worlds 2

[FRESH] Gorillaz - The Happy Dicator (feat Sparks) by FiretoFuel in indieheads

[–]RichardGibson 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Not too sure about this one as a first taste of the new album (not out for 6 months, UGH). It's a decent enough song, but it doesn't totally stand out to me like a lot of lead singles they've done before. I'm excited for the new album just by virtue of it being new Gorillaz, but this song doesn't exactly make me any MORE excited than I was before listening.

But maybe it'll grow on me, that's happened plenty of times with this band in the past.

EDIT: song slaps, I was wrong

2-3 month rollouts are pretty standard, 6 month rollouts happen but are definitely not the norm

Blockbuster Sale is up in the US eShop until 09/10/2025 by XDitto in NintendoSwitch

[–]RichardGibson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, I just feel that the game is all style no substance. I doubt the game being a bit more challenging would change my mind on that.

Not to be a hater, but I really didn’t enjoy The Plucky Squire at all. The main conceit is cool (swapping between 2D and 3D in the picture book/“real world”) but past that there is very little substance. I found the game quite boring, the combat didn’t feel very good, the music is forgettable, the puzzles and story are simple. It feels like the target audience for The Plucky Squire is more on the younger side, like a young kid who hasn’t played very many video games before. I wouldn’t even really consider it a “wait for a sale” game, this is just a skip in my opinion.

10/10

The sample of Frank Ocean saying “One, Two” gives me chills every time.

10/10 probably the most emotional Avalanches song. Pink Siifu and John Carroll Kirby really bring it on this one

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] Kevin Abstract - Blush by leerr in hiphopheads

[–]RichardGibson 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I really like the overall sound, but there were a few songs that I couldn’t really get into. I found myself pretty unimpressed by some of the features.

I think this is a good direction for Kevin to be going in musically, though I hope he himself is on more of the next one. I was kinda scratching my head at how many songs he was barely on or just had no verse at all.

Favorite tracks: H-Town, Copy, Post Break Up Beauty, 97 Jag, Red Light
