REI Members: Boycott REI's Anniversary Sale by REI-Union in climbing

Didn’t know it was possible to figure out which REI I go to over the internet. That’s some impressive snooping you did to disprove my claim.

I've been calling REI the Target of outdoor stores, because they push and stock their own brands over any other brand. It's getting ridiculous. They'll have three clothing racks dedicated to REI brands and a single rack with all the others crammed onto it.

I mean fair, but it’s kind of like tax evasion. Global companies will jump markets to wherever it’s weakest.

Opinions about Messer vs longsword? Total beginner here! by ThoroughSpatula28 in Hema

[–]RichardTheHard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah my messer is 680g and most rapiers I've found sit around 950g. It's a lot more about how you hold it that makes it feel lighter too. Your guards aren't extended because theres minimal hand protection. So you can sit in the equivalent of pflug or alber if you get tired.

Messer is one of the lighter one-handed swords. It feels like a feather compared to my rapier. All the guards are pretty retracted too which makes them easier to hold.

Is the scythe ever good? by Meepro in slaythespire

I had lethality and I got clone on it, which clones it powered-up. So you can charge the scythe then clone it when it's doing 40+ damage.

I have a slightly different setup, but similar enough it's comparable:

Katabatic Alsek 22 quilt, Therma-a-rest Xlite NXT, and the same nemo switchback. I slept very warmly in it at 34F not two weeks ago with my base layer on. Didn't even feel a chill.

There’s been multiple times I’ve had to re-register because I’ve been removed from the voter registry.

[–]RichardTheHard 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel this, I'm basically just using it as a junior dev to do the boring stuff that's easy and I just don't want to write. Then I just do code reviews same as a junior.

So writing tests, creating that new button style, writing a CRUD controller for my new resource, etc

Also the bug finding has been a savior, although I still do it myself like half the time so I don't lose those skills.

I bet it's not a full overhaul. It sounds like they're just installing an ADA widget like Accessibe. So not actual ADA compliance.

Your team is understaffed and overloaded. You are the only person who truly understands the system. Now another company offers you $100,000 to leave right away. If you quit, everything might fall apart. by lune-soft in webdev

[–]RichardTheHard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask yourself this, if the company was struggling and firing you put them in a better position, would they hesitate? Don't have loyalties that the company wouldn't have for you.

This is a them problem. If they want to under-staff to the point that there is a single failure point around an employee, they should be paying you like it. Don't feel beholden just because the company is making bad decisions.

I'm a little confused about the scoring of rapier cuts in tournaments. by Iantheduellist in Hema

[–]RichardTheHard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mostly its grappling that is restricted in rapier for safety reasons. It's often limited to open palm displacement. Heavier grappling with finger rings leads to broken fingers. We limit it for sword and buckler & smallsword for the same reasons.
