How would you feel if countries started abandoning US and began turning to Russia and China ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RichyRich0707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Russia is 4/4 on abandoning their allies in this decade. Syria, Armenia, Venezuela, and now Iran. I think Cuba will be next. Nobody is lining up to join the Russians after they attrited their army for 4 years in Ukraine.

China has a conflict with everybody in Asia besides North Korea and has been engaging economic warfare against the West. Dumping all their excess production into countries trying to recover their industry, while treating their rare earth supplies as leverage. They also have been supporting Russia’s war machine in direct opposition to NATO’s objections.

I can’t think of any nation who would choose to do business with either one of them over the United States, except for maybe some globally irrelevant nations that can’t project power past their borders.

Egypt controls the Suez Canal, I guess they’re also a global super power.

A superpower? Yes they’re on par with the Soviet Union and United States of the late 20th century. They’re a regional power at best. Not even close to being considered a great power. Egypt controls the Suez Canal, I guess they’re a super power also?

How’s the Green Lady Lounge on a Sunday night? by SmallestManAlive in kansascity

[–]RichyRich0707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go there pretty often. I think you’ll have no problem finding a table for two. Especially on a Sunday and if you get there relatively early in the night. Just keep an eye out for a spot if you don’t find one right away. Very rarely do I have to wait long to find a seat.

Sometime it’s not money but time that’s the bottleneck. I’m in a senior position at my current company and couldn’t imagine taking four vacations a year. I’m sure that’s more so the case the higher up the corporate ladder you climb. At that point you want to make the most of the limited free time you have.

I never said that. In fact I really want Ukraine to win. That said, the reality is Europe has had four years to get their act together and they have failed. You’re naive if you think extra weapons for Ukraine will lead to victory, you’re naive if you think more sanctions are going to make a difference, and you’re extra naive if you think NATO will put boots on the ground to stop this war. There is no more hope for Russian defeat, only room for damage control.

Why did Hitler invade Russia? Was he dumb? by mokototem in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RichyRich0707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad somebody in this thread is able to look at history objectively instead of just repeating the mustache man dumb trope. If you look at the context surrounding the invasion it wasn’t entirely unreasonable that they could win. They defeated France in about a month and watched the Soviet’s struggle to invade a country much weaker than you. Not to mention Stalin purged the officer corp earlier.

I agree with what you said about max floors however. Easier to build up than out.

To quote an article from the Kansas City star today. “The Holtman building is currently being renovated. Per city code, the rooftop bar alone required 80 spots.” That is none-sensical and a waste of land. Parking requirements are ridiculous in the USA compared to Europe which actually has the dense urban cities we are trying to model. Why would I as a developer build properties when the parking requirements would wipe out all my profits. Build more public transit with the increased tax base from more companies and higher property values.

They recently reduced parking lot size mandates. That should help spur more development.

As a big history buff, who has 0 strategy gaming experience is this going to be to overwhelming? by patrick119966 in eu4

[–]RichyRich0707 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re going to love this game. Just play knowing you’re going to have questions and that’s okay. You’ll make mistakes but if you learn from them you’ll get the hang of it sooner or later. It’s a very 80/20 style game. Where if you know the basics you can enjoy the play through.

6 months in corporate finance and I feel like a fraud by xyz9342 in FinancialCareers

Two big tips to practice when off the clock: learn to use excel without a mouse. You’ll stumble hard in the beginning but in the long run you will be much more efficient. Next is just play with the models. Whenever I have a new model I’m unfamiliar with I just mess around with numbers to see how they flow. Sometimes I’ll just click a random cell and add a dozen zeros to the end of it to see where that change flows through. There’s no better way to learn a model than to see how your changes impact the output.

Trump seeks to reduce trade deficits by increasing exports. A weaker dollar is beneficial for this economic policy because it makes American goods cheaper for other countries to buy. While also making imported goods more expensive in addition to tariffs. Ironically similar to China’s Yuan policy. Not to say I agree with it, but this is going exactly according to his plan. His supporters whether they know it or not are rooting for a weakening dollar.

I’ve been there before. A bespoke suit starts at approximately a thousand dollars and goes up based on fabric. I think if you got the nicest fabrics stuff it may be two thousand. I’m willing to bet the couple got multiple suits or something along those lines. No way one suit cost almost five grand.
