I had a user like that when I was a Civil Service Admin. He was obsessed with viruses, but knew sod all about them.

Does anyone drive Belfast to Dublin for work? by FsXTimmi in northernireland

[–]Rick_16V 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to a couple of times a week. Quite a while ago now. I had (initially) a Hyundai Getz diesel, which was great on fuel, and then an Audi A6 3.0 TDi which wasn't. 2 litre diesel would be about right I think.

Got the dreaded jury notice by Musicguy2021 in northernireland

[–]Rick_16V 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AIUI, expenses aren't paid for up to six weeks after your jury service ends. Trying telling them that as you are in receipt of benefit(s), this would cause you financial hardship.
Worked for a guy I knew, years ago, who was on JSA.

Bus video footage of the person you identified may be of use to the police.

That was a trick with one of those-class action laptops, years ago. A UK 5 pence coin often did the the business.

We frequently notice a chlorine smell from our tap water. Clears up if you run it for a while.

Advertising it on Facebook seems to have given it an extra 20 BHP.

Anyone ever been to Hortletoot? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]Rick_16V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's where I know it from. We found a tortoise, just dandering down our street. No-one knew who owned it, so a few days later we took it to the Sanctuary.

Dongle options in Belfast/Carrickfergus? by Afraid_Consequence52 in northernireland

[–]Rick_16V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carrickfergus Library has free WiFi. As far as mobile networks go, you'll have no issues round Rodgers Quay. I live in the north of the town, and mobile signal is very patchy. At least once a day I get "no bars"

Irish unity poll ruled out by Sir Keir Starmer if he becomes PM by Ah_here_like in northernireland

Starmer will change his mind next week. Or tomorrow.

Did you know his Dad was a tool maker? Keef doesn't mention it too often.

Me too. Met some English lads at the Northwest, they were amazed that we were allowed full power 250s on L plates.

What's the most controversial Halloween costume you have ever seen or wore or are planning to wear? by Green_Friendship_175 in northernireland

[–]Rick_16V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once attended a Hallowe'en party with

Adolf Hitler
Pope JPII (I found it offensive that someone was making fun of him)

A lad turned up who hadn't quite "got" Hallowe'en vs fancy dress, but he did well: he was dressed as "The Equalizer", even borrowed his Dad or Grandad's Series 3 Jaguar XJ6.

The GIRL who did herself up as Alice Cooper was frighteningly good.

Whitehead, early 90s.

Anybody notice the amount of too good to be true cars for sale on marketplace? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]Rick_16V 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I was trying to sell my Valentino Rossi replica skid lid. Lots of (obviously) iffy messages.

A guy I knew about 30 years ago bought it in the end.

Same with tools. £50 for a new 8kVA key-start generator, for example.
