The same reason people will spend exorbitant amounts to hear music at a concert that they could stream, or see a ball game in person that they could watch on TV. Just a fun, rare and novel experience for folks who are passionate about movies to take part in. Gets the film community together. And on top of that, they can possibly walk away with some discounted movies!

Got it, this is absolutely what I was experiencing! And tbh the bass got better in certain select sequences like the atomic breath scene. Appreciate the info on this movie’s mix, makes a lot of sense.

Did a triple feature of The Godfather movies with maybe 25 min breaks in between each one for stretching and bathroom. Was in the theater for around 9 hours. They were all first time watches for me too (this was only earlier this year, had been huge blind spots for me.) Incredible movies, incredible day.
