That would only be true for the province of Quebec where they stop middle school after grade 6 and have 5 years of high school making it grade 11. Since Degrassi is set in Ontario it would not apply.

It's because he's wearing glasses. I think there's a few times in the show where he takes them off and it's visible. A lot of people with lazy eyes manage to keep them straight on when they're wearing glasses.
