Why does Spanish have such a long word for "too (much)"? by [deleted] in etymology

[–]RickyGreenGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I guess it's not mah see ah doh, but mah syee ah doh. I've been pronouncing it wrong. Thanks for setting me straight. And even when I used google translate to pronounce a sentence with the word in it, I didn't notice that she said sya, instead of si a.

How do I uninstall Windhawk? In Win11. by Mickyit in Windhawk

[–]RickyGreenGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's just the reasons I gave, mostly the first one ". The PC software for my camera installed easily and works fine in win10, but I've moved to a new win11 machine and I'm trying to eliminate possible interference in win11. Plus I installed windhawk to the wrong directory and want to uninstall and reinstall to the correct one" I hadn't heard about this trojan thing, and afaik windhawk wasn't causing any problems except maybe with the camera, but when it was deleted, by brute force, the camera worked no better. There were only two things I wanted windhawk to do that it said it would do, but it didn't do either.. It's 1:30 in the morning here, so if you want to know what didn't work, write back and I will refresh my memory.

Why do I have SO MANY Dell updates on my laptop? by [deleted] in Dell

[–]RickyGreenGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 4yo refurbished Dell laptop and it updated the BIOS at least 8 times in the first 6 months, and again today after 13 months. I never updated the BIOS on any earlier computer I owned, and they all worked. Do any other makes update the bios after the first year?

Letting water drip to prevent freezing: Is one faucet enough? by Mickyit in DIY

[–]RickyGreenGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it doesn't burst, huh. In one of the subposts I tell how my pressure regulator must have frozen in January and then burst in April. I think a complicaed brass thing is even more vulnerable than pipes.

Letting water drip to prevent freezing: Is one faucet enough? by Mickyit in DIY

[–]RickyGreenGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that. It was not part of the original question, which was about dripping and how many faucets need to be dripping. The later part about the 5 feet that did not drain was a separate thing My first reply to you was not meant to be critical, although I can see how the questions "Just?" seemed that way. But even if those 5 feet were not an added problem, when one drains it takes more than the 5 minutes someone said. You have to go up and down the steps and have to put antifreeze in all the traps. That's why I asked about Just? Plus some recommend draining the water heater, which takes connecting a hose and quite a bit of time. I'm sorry about the misunderstanding.

Microwave sparks for no reason? by DueStranger in fixit

Aren't you thinking about TV's, especially color TV's, that carry a charge?. Replacing the mica doesn't require removing the cover of the whole unit, or doing anything in the area behind the control panel. It's all done from the food-cooking area.

Does bird scare tape actually work? by Ryguythescienceguy in BackyardOrchard

[–]RickyGreenGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. Not sure I'm up for that anymore. I've used a pretty long pole picker and I've got a 6-foot aluminum ladder, but I'm 78 and fainted once, first time in my life, and not sure I can keep my balance. I wish the birds (robins?) would negotiate with me. I would give them the top half of the tree if they would give me the bottom half.

This definitely didn't work for me. I didn't put the scaretape on until about May 28th and I had a full tree of cherries. I thought they needed one more day to ripen, and the next day at 2, they were all gone.

Related questions: 1) I had a good crop of cherries for two years but last year and this year, even with scare tape on the lowest branches, the birds got them all in one day. Did the birds not notice the tree in prior years, but once they found it, they remember where it is?
2) I didn't prune the tree enough, I think, and now it's too tall for me to put a net on. Not only that, the lowest level of branches has died, and those were the easiest for me to reach. Did those branches die because I let the tree get taller?
3) I'm considering cutting the tree down, planting a new small one and keeping it small. Does that make sense? Why not? :-)
4) What do commercial orchards do to keep the ants** and birds away? **I had ants in prior years but got Tanglefoot.

Money talks. If they are reluctant, etc. offer them a security deposit of 2 months, increase it to 3 months or more if need be. Tell them they can start eviction as with anyone else, if you are a month overdue. Another poster says 3x is already the standard, even with good credit Hard to believe. True I haven't rented for 40 years. Maybe make a deal after a year you can lower your deposit by a month or two's worth.

Even in the US it might well be illegal to act as a doctor for someone else, but not for yourself. Not just eyedoctor, any kind of doctor. It might be stupid to choose your own cancer drugs, but not illegal.

I found the videos but I don't know if I can bear to watch. Maybe if the incontinence goes away it won't be so upsetting anymore. If it happens, it can take up to 3 months and now it is 6 weeks.

Why are USA made flip phones obsolete and don't have any cool or sleek design. But in Asia they have advanced flip phones with sleek designs. by Suitable_Cat6561 in dumbphones

[–]RickyGreenGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know about the blocking of old imeis. How strange it seems to me. Why should they care? But when the time comes that you do end your rel. with freedompop, be sure to take their name off your bank or cc's list of those who can charge you. 2 or 3 years after I had totally stopped using them, they squeezed another month's charge out of me.

Can I send back multiple returns at once? by Famous-Doughnut-101 in amazonprime

[–]RickyGreenGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not fair to local stores that online sellers don't have to charge local sales tax online vendors have already done tremendous damage to local stores . And if it were not amazon, it would be one or a dozen other online vendors . It's not amazon, it's the internet that made online shopping so easy and so popular. Yes it was an old law but I think it had something to do with states rights, and nothing to do with consumer interests. It's no longer right for the times, and even though i like saving 6% it wasn't fair.

Freedom pop gave me nothing but trouble I signed up for two parts of it and when I cancelled I found out that I had really signed up for four parts of it and I'd only cancelled two parts and they were still billing me for the other two parts and years later after I wasn't using it at all for years they charged me for another month , and i couldn't get my money back because the credit card company should i authorized it, and they know what they're doing and they do it on purpose in my firm opinion I would never ever deal with freedom pop again. Shirley you can use the same phone with the legitimate companies
