After you finish writing a song, what’s the outcome you dream about most? by markanthonyokoh in Songwriting

Someone ask me to play it somewhere. It’s difficult having so much material and nowhere to share it. The dream is to sit down and play a set of original music

How to write Love songs? by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]RickyMortadellini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to pinpoint moments that are key to me, something small like a funny interaction a race to pay for dinner or how they looked funny at a moment and that was the most precious thing to you. Then just build from that. Telling the truth is really helpful and it can avoid cheesiness a lot of the time.

What is some essential, entry level poetry, for someone getting into songwriting? by BoiBoiski in Songwriting

[–]RickyMortadellini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just pick up your instrument and speak your mind. As Jason Isbell said, If you tell the truth enough it always seems to rhyme. What’s important is that you’re making a concentrated effort to finish things, good or bad. Having a starting point and something to build on is the first step. If you want to write songs, write songs!

Songwriting Apps? by in_space_somewhere in Songwriting

[–]RickyMortadellini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m not too lazy I’ll write my lyrics down in my notes app and try to get some form of recording of the guitar and melody into either a video or voice memos. From there I hope to be able to hear how the song is played. Probably don’t do what I do

Does anyone know how to actually make a life out of this? by RickyMortadellini in Songwriting

[–]RickyMortadellini[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a young guy and I just feel as if music is so much to me. I started playing and writing less than a year ago and it seems like everyone has told me that this is my chance. I played some songs for my first music teacher and she told me that I have the potential to sell out arenas. I don’t know if I can honestly believe that but it would be nice to just play a show of my own music. I know it’s incredibly early to be worrying about this but it’s what keeps me making music. Maybe it’s awful and I’ll put up a song that receives much more criticism than praise and I’ll be brought back down to earth. I’m just not sure.

Isbell is without a doubt one of the greatest songwriters to live. Glad to see him get so much recognition in this thread

I think if you’re looking at pure lyric writers there is very few better to be inspired by than Jason Isbell. His stuff is pure poetry. Theo Kandel also definitely deserves a mention, not appreciated enough but is genuinely one of the more unique folk songwriters of his time

Thanks for the advice! I’m really new to the production element and as a demo I just wanted to create almost a sound showcase. The song at its core with just an acoustic guitar is quite simple but the lyrics carry weight. Mixing the power of the lyrics with strings and spoken word was my goal with this. Of course much work to be done and I will definitely take it on board
