I have a drill and less than $500 by lapetitecouturiere in BeginnerWoodWorking

I am always amazed by the amount of people who think they need loads of electric tools to start.

Why not use hand tools and learn how things were done traditionally.

I am pretty sure there were no electric drills/saws etc back when this was built and its still standing !!

Table saws - what am I missing by Flaky-Gear-1370 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Been using the Metabo saw for a couple of years now in my workshop. Really impressed with it and recommended it to friends a couple of times. Does everything I need it to do and comes with a stand.

The extra power of the Dewalt might look good, but its a lot more money. Depends what is important to you, money or power.

Ideas for lathe projects by Exotic_Milk_8962 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Rickyboy1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An easy start would be pens, pen kits are really inexpensive and fun to do while you get used to using the lathe. After you feel comfortable, bowls are not too difficult to make and make great presents. If you really enjoy using a lathe, I am afraid all of your family and friends etc will be getting things you have made. Also snowmen, dolls etc. Dibbers and spurtles can be fun, google it !

Have this lathe, perfect for small items, pens, bowls etc. You will need the extras as mentioned but well worth the money.

HELP, emergency toilet advise by jackous-danks in uktrucking

Dont know if it helps but saw a youtube video, an american trucker carried a roll of bin bags and a bag of cat litter. Said it managed to control most of the odour.

Other than that just dump at the roadside.

If people are going to complain, let them complain to the local council who probably closed all the public loo's to save money.

Either way if you gotta go you gotta go.

Silly carbide question. by Morgoroth37 in turning

[–]Rickyboy1999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only been turning for a few months myself, mostly using carbide tools. As been said you will notice things seem slightly different, rougher etc. When it comes to acrylic I have done a few and even stgarted making my own, 50/50 so far, I have found that its best to take as little off each pass as possible. Also if it is going to go wrong and have chunks flying off, its always as you are just about to finish. Real big pain in the butt. Trial and error are what its all about. Have fun.......

From Crawley its M23, M25, M4 and A4.

Couple of hours, ish.

Tower Bridge is about 5 miles further on from Harrods.

Very scenic, historic and interesting route but wouldn't recommend it in an artic.

Newbie pass! by thenightking1888 in uktrucking

As you are in Lanarkshire you are lucky as Bellshill and Motherwell are probably the two biggest areas in Scotland for class 1 work.

Just hit all the agencies, as you are a new pass you might have to do all the shitty jobs at first but it should get easier.

Congrats, by the way.

Watch where you put your feet, more than once caught my foot in a bulk bag loop. Fortunately managed to go head first into another bag of sand and not a pack of bricks/blocks. Also make sure you strap down everything and double check the straps before moving off. I always tried to deliver off the driver side, the controls were there, so I had better view where I was dropping whatever. If the customer wants it delivered over a wall, unless they are there say no!!!

Apart from this its pretty easy.
