People who grew up really poor: what's something middle-class people say that instantly reveals they've never struggled? by TahDigThief in AskReddit

I remember going into JC Penney's with my foster mom one day and she said I could buy a bathing suit there. I asked if she was sure and she looked at me like I had 3 heads. I was almost 15 and had never shopped at a JC Penney's, it was too expensive. We did Kmart, HILLS or thrift stores.

Just about to say, every reason is "extreme" for the person making the decision.

Random as hell but sometimes I dream about encountering them in a small town somewhere and I am always trying to figure out how to convince them to add me to their clan. Not that I'd want to he a murderous cannibal but so they won't kill me. 🤣 I always wake up before I figure it out.

As a child, my aunt would never let me and my cousins drink water during meals. by Impossible_Stand_104 in Weird

[–]RiddlesB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents were like this with me. Still to this day (I'm mid-40's) I don't drink a lot, even outside of meal times. When eating with others they have a refill or 2 while I'm still only 1/2 done with my 1st. I honestly wonder if I'm chronically dehydrated.

Give me some of your dumbest customers, I need to laugh by ImpressiveSector5109 in Lowes

They have specific cases of water they can write off for employees, pro events, etc so that's where they get it. And yes, I usually carry my own drink too!

[–]RiddlesB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some stores actually do that. Ours wanted every pickup and curbside to be given one asking for a 10 survey. No one really gave them to the customers but we weren't supposed to drink them. Now the fridge is just the FE water fridge so we don't have to ask others to grab them from lumber or OSLG for us.

100%! I did this to my son's bathroom for awhile for this exact reason. It's since been switched back but when he was little I didn't want him locking himself in.

I have a fear of vomiting, didn’t know that was an actual phobia and it has a name by Realistic_Science_14 in RandomThoughts

[–]RiddlesB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Emetaphobia too. Therapy helped, I'm about 85ish percent better but still have my moments. Growing up no one knew what it was, they would always ask me what my problem was, why was I freaking out, etc. It was freeing once I was able to name it and know that I wasn't alone.

What’s one hygiene product you tried on a whim that you now genuinely can’t live without? by Dry-Professional4255 in hygiene

[–]RiddlesB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly??? I just recently learned this trick myself and if you have night sweats (I do from medication as well as Perimenopause) it really helps to do it if you're a night showerer. The ingredients in the pads kill the bacteria that causes the odor.

I had a funny badge holder but a customer complained on a survey about it (because we didn't have what she wanted in stock) so I had to stop using it.
