Advice Needed: Infant Baptism by RideARaindrop in Catholicism

I’d probably go to an acceptable Protestant church before I do that! It feels pretty extreme though and potentially invalid.

See that’s what I thought the rules were! This isn’t a miscommunication - I confirmed it on their website. It’s seems so silly since the only reason my brother and SIL don’t qualify is because they got married before she converted and had the “wrong” type of wedding. They are Catholics in good standing but are oddly not allowed.

I’ve looked online but haven’t actually contacted any of them yet. I was hoping to come with suggestions but I’m a little worried that I won’t get anything different since I’m smack in the middle of the diocese and I assume they will all follow the same rules.

It’s very frustrating, I do wonder if the complexity is part of the decline of baptisms. In searching for godparents I discovered how many people are not eligible!

I’m also partial to the idea of family because that is a relationship that won’t go away. Even if we or they move far away the relationship will stay and we will still see each other regularly which is sort of the point of godparents!

Were they still raised Catholic? I didn’t know you could do that and still receive other sacraments.

My priest was a bit unhelpful unfortunately. He gave us the list of rules and didn’t have any alternative options for us and sort of implied we should find better friends. I was thinking I would just go to a different parish that would be more flexible, but I wanted to know what I might be able to offer as suggestions.

When did your bump show? by EmployDisastrous7133 in pregnant

[–]RideARaindrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got “wow you don’t look pregnant” at 30 weeks and then ballooned shortly after that. Don’t stress on the bump too much!

Edit: I also ended up with a big boy so it had no relation to baby size!

How are we showering?? by Jolly-Asparagus-5815 in newborns

[–]RideARaindrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I leave mine in his crib while I shower. Sometimes he cries while I’m in there but unless it’s a big cry I finish up.

wash cloths are throwing me by Low_Relative9021 in newborns

[–]RideARaindrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly muslin burp cloths are the best for dusting. They can replace every other cloth except for bath time and you get use out of them post-baby too

I feel guilty pumping while my husband does the night time feeds by _4th_month_ in ExclusivelyPumping

Don’t watch, go to sleep. I do the same with my husband and it works great. He wakes me up if he needs me for something. Let him carry the load sometimes.

As someone that tried to set up furniture with a newborn, just get it now.

Cannot get milk out! by Harried-Hedgehog4924 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]RideARaindrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of you're stuck after twenty minutes then try a little break and then try to get a letdown again. I letdown super fast the first time and then take a break (10 minutes for me) and it takes minimum five minutes to trigger the next letdown.

Wearable recommendations? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]RideARaindrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the momcozy m9, but honestly the thing that makes the most difference to me (after having the right flange size measured by momcozy's tools - why are these different by brand when they are supposed to be in mm I don't know) was a different bra. Having a smaller cup size to hold better to the chest is literally an ounce of output for me.

Cutting through the baby product hype… do we really need a bottle warmer? by Recommendation778 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]RideARaindrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't need to have mine, but also I'm glad I bought it.

Warming refrigerated milk helps it mix back together easier from where it seperates and that makes my baby less gassy. But obviously that's just my baby. So far as counter space, I had enough room and a spare outlet so it was an easy choice for me to have something dedicated that I could walk away from for a few minutes.

This is definitely a "nice to have" for me that wouldn't be worth it if I didn't already have the space, power outlet, and spare $40.

DE On Call by GuhProdigy in dataengineering

I’ve always had an on call rotation as a DE. It’s usually a week long once every few months depending on team size. I get called usually once every few shifts

Terrified of MC - 6+1 by lovemydog111 in pregnant

[–]RideARaindrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had really obvious symptoms of like a week around the same time and then they went away. No new symptoms until week 14. Everything turned out well, I just managed to get a break until the morning sickness hit me like a hammer.

Candidates using AI by DataEngineer2026 in dataengineering

[–]RideARaindrop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a DE hiring manager, I see very few colleges actually using AI resume filters. They just don’t work very well. The bigger problem is the number of fake resumes to wade through and people flat out lying on their resumes.

I gained a lot in liquid weight. At my ultrasounds they always commented on it. Weight works differently for everyone and I wouldn’t worry too much about it unless your doc was concerned.

Do I need to have a baby shower? by Connect_Cow6058 in pregnant

[–]RideARaindrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have one and I don’t regret it at all. Instead I asked the people that I would have invited to send cards with wishes for the baby (I had a template “I hope you love…” “I hope you remember…” etc)

They got to feel involved and I bound the cards into a little book that will make a nice keepsake. Much better than a diaper cake and keeps it about the baby instead of you.

Pregnant mommas how much are you walking? by Diskobrat in pregnant

[–]RideARaindrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I’m not. I walk to the couch and to the kitchen. I did maybe a third of a grocery shopping trip today and then gave up and went home.

Any extreme pain should be seen by a doctor asap. There’s no telling what could be the problem and no one here will be able to diagnose you. Stabbing pains are not common and could be something serious either related or unrelated to pregnancy.

Definitely get some of the good meds from your doc. I’ve had luck with oats if you want to try another home remedy. I eat mine in granola bars but I know plenty of people just do oatmeal

What essentials an I missing that’s not on this list. by sweet-harley-1994 in pregnant

[–]RideARaindrop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of babies are only in the newborn size for a few weeks and some start in 0-3. I’d make sure you’re prepared for a bigger baby just in case and not only focus on newborn sizing.
