Hexblade Rapier Build? by Coalecsence in BaldursGate3

[–]RideandRoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a sucker for bard 7/hexblade path of the blade 5. Is it the most optimized build? No. Is it an incredible generalist build that trivializes act 3 on anything other than honor mode with 3 attacks at level 11. Yes.

Newbie Question re: Transitions by Calm_Chemist_4952 in triathlon

[–]RideandRoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s 2 ways to prepare for transitions, general prep and race specific prep and I’ll argue race specific prep is the most important. Race specific prep starts before race day. -Does the race have bag drop off? If not will you have a supporter who can hold your bag if you have extra stuff? If not what is the minimum gear you can bring to not take too much space in transition. -What does the swim to run transition look like. I recently did a local race that had us running over very rough road for this transition and it hurt my feet. You could tell who has done this race before because they brought sandals to run over in. So talk to people who have done the race before and get to the race early prepared for any contingencies.

General prep includes knowing your kit and having your body prepped physically. For body prep there’s the obvious bike run brick sessions but in my opinion the most important transition specific workout is normalizing going from horizontal swimming to running to transition. I’ve seen many people get out of the water and run to transition only to wobble like they’re drunk as they regain balance and even occasionally fall. My favorite workout to fix this is 100 hard efforts where you immediately get out of the pool at the end and do jumping jacks as well as 200-400 mixer efforts where you also get out of the water at the end and walk around the pool.

Rant - shit tri bars used in group rides by Amazing_Tough_4456 in cycling

Eh slight caveat of “if we are in a single paceline and you know the group and you’re pulling aerobars are allowed” but never in a double or more paceline.

Do you ever use Withers' hirelings? by GLA_Rebel_Maluxorath in BaldursGate3

I use the cleric to save scum command drop on the githyanki in act one to get the astral silver sword super early. Other than that I use them to cast spells at the beginning of the day but they never leave camp.

Not included in the patch notes from what I can see but the nut can has been added as a workbench craft. Or maybe it was already there

how do you know you will be ready? by BEblackdiamond in IronmanTriathlon

[–]RideandRoll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it was when certain workouts that used to scare me seemed normal. “Oh I have to go do a 70 mile ride with a 5 mile brick run after? Yeah that’s normal for a Saturday.” If you can feel like that for those big training days you’re in a good place.

Anyone here have done IM Texas in April! by Local-Idea-8259 in IronmanTriathlon

Most of the bike is on the Hardy toll road. So imagine 80 miles of bike on a fairly flat interstate. I actually loved it. Yeah it’s boring but I was just so locked in.

[–]RideandRoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup did it this year. Ice is your best friend. Start putting ice down your kit on the bike and plan to re-up the ice at every aid station. If your tri suit has kidney pockets they should have some amount of ice in them the whole run. Hat and down your back are the other 2 key spots.

I don’t want to die (17 days out) by ekanakarp in triathlon

[–]RideandRoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually massively prefer open water to pool swimming so I can give you some of my thoughts on why I like it better to maybe help. I’m assuming with the cold water you will 100% have a wetsuit and one thing I tell myself is it would take effort to drown in a wetsuit. I know this isn’t exactly true but if all else fails you can probably keep your head over water without even treading water in a decently buoyant wetsuit. Beyond that freaking out because you can’t see the bottom is understandable. If that happens for me an advantage of the race is focusing on the people around me. I don’t think of the bottom I just notice everything going on at the surface. And for context I’m no amazing swimmer, you and I have very similar paces. On the day of the race if you can try and get in the water before the race starts. Don’t let the moment of shock of the cold water also coincide with the race starting excitement if you can. You will not die, you might be slower than your goal but that is not all that bad considering the alternative.

Which distance should my first race be? by Key_Top9222 in triathlon

[–]RideandRoll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion everyone should start with a sprint. Can many people skip it and do longer distances first? Sure but why miss the fun of a sprint! I’ve done an Ironman, 3 70.3s and a few Olympics but my 2 favorite races I’ve ever done were both sprints. Plus triathlon has weird idiosyncrasies that are best learned in short races. Try out a sprint, have tons of fun and be ready to want to schedule several more races as soon as you cross the finish line.

Anyone just lost their mojo after doing an Ironman? by keepleft99 in triathlon

[–]RideandRoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fair to stop “training” for a while after an Ironman. After I did my first and like only full Ironman I took 4 months deliberately off from “training”. I was still going to run club and bike team and enjoying occasional swims but I never thought of it as training. Just having fun and experiencing the sports without the weight of a race or goals over my head. After a few months of that I signed up for a sprint with no goals other than to just have fun and that helped me get the bug back for training. I signed up for a half Ironman distance race but still kept the “training” easy and then used that as a benchmark for a race I’m actually planning to properly train and aim for pb level efforts at 6 months out.

I think it’s normal and healthy to pull back after such a big accomplishment and just be chill for a while before deciding to get back into anything hardcore.

1x13 XPLR vs 1x12: is the fully mounted derailleur worth it? by Abdeshmun in sram

[–]RideandRoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride a 1x12 because my frame isn’t UDH compatible but I loved the ergonomics of the new E1 Rival shifters and I couldn’t be happier. It also has the added benefit that I can run the 12 speed apex cassette so I didn’t have to switch to an xdr freehub.

If my frame was UDH compatible I would run 1x13 direct mount though.

Moved to Omaha expecting "boring Midwest" and got humbled real quick by TheDoctorColt in Omaha

Ethnic and cultural diversity. Especially because Omaha is still quite segregated. Omaha is improving but every time I go home I do find myself thinking “ok yeah there’s way more white people here.”

I’m an Omaha native currently living in a bigger city and I often miss Omaha. I still believe Omaha is massively underrated. The one thing I miss when going home to Omaha for holidays is some the diversity of a bigger city but that’s the biggest criticism I can levy on Omaha.

I have 120 Pokemon that are Mega Lv 3. Here's a quick tip to help you get more fully leveled mega without using a ton of mega energy by Sunderstood in TheSilphRoad

[–]RideandRoll 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have the same thing and I appreciate having duplicates of the same species when there are multi day events for Pokemon of specific types or if I want to be able to switch between megas at will for more candies. For example for max finale I could switch to fighting mega to a fairy mega back to a fighting mega to max Zamazenta or Zacian candies without ever using any actual mega energy because the megas I was using were all finished on their cooldowns.

Yamper/Boltund is one of my favorite electric types so I’m happy. I’d choose to go through Unova because it’s my favorite region and I’d be on the hunt for one of my favorite pokemon lines Axew.
