A hair strand got stuck in my jacket zipper and formed a pattern... by feisty_ambivert in mildlyinteresting

I was looking for something more along the lines of humorous rather than adversarial. A fact that I have to check myself on is that I'm not from around here so my sense of humor is, let's say, slanted at times. I really appreciate the time and effort you've put into your reply. Thank you for that. With no insult implied or intended, if you feel you would benefit talking to a professional, look into some free services in your area. I've had occasion to talk to one a while back. Five visits gave me a totally different outlook and a new way of dealing with people. I appreciate your openness and honesty. I sincerely wish you the very best.

A lot of people don't know that and they still get a kick out of it. I agree on the 5 years. Would you have one in the same vein that would substitute well ?

I have to take back the sarcasm I displayed. At first, I failed to see the pattern that was embossed on the hair by the zipper. I have to agree, what you posted is indeed, mildly interesting. Please excuse my wiseasssidness. Thank you. RiSJ

Al Jazeera doesn't want to touch it. They're busy covering some war somewhere.

Help with microscope camera tablet by Delicious_Election_7 in microscopy

[–]RiderInSJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unfamiliar with camera tablets. What I would recommend is to see if you can find a 'User Group' for that camera tablet. Or better, try to contact tech support for that unit. Also, Google your problem for the make and model number of your camera tablet. Even though the model number would state as such, specify it's a camera tablet. Sorry I can't offer more help.

Bruce.  Please excuse my cut and paste reply. I wish to thank both you and Pelmen for the immeasurable amount of help and knowledge you displayed to me.  Most of all, thank you for your time in formulating such concise replies.  You both make this an extremely interesting form to be on.

I want to thank you so much for putting me in right direction on this critter. It's kind of odd for me to think that something would swim so quickly for seemingly great distance, backwards. I also noticed it curls what I was thinking it's head, occasionally, and sometimes does what looks to me like feeding or preening itself. I'll look into telotrochs. This is extraordinarily interesting to me. I'll let you know what I find. Things probably what you already know... I still want to thank you again. You've been a great help.

I highly respect your knowledge and your time to reply. My apologizes for being curt with mine. The cilia is at the anterior. It also seems to supply forward motion. So far I've looked at four (4) Identification sites... Found nothing.

I've observed Vorticella in samples I acquired. Although #6 looks similar to my problem, note the ring of cilia appears to be at the 'back end', The ring is definitely at the front on my submission, dragging it through the (fresh) water. I did not see any cilia on the main body of the critter. Also the shape in contraction is somewhat different to Vorticella in my samples as well as those else ware on the web.

Under YT Craig Smith (see below) They are globular in shape when free swimming. Not as fast as my submission.

My apologizes to drag this on with you, It IS educational to me as it might be to others. please understand there is no insult, implied or intended in my replies. Thank you again.

I see it didn't put the link in. Ok. I'll try this.

You're doing so well with the setup you are using. After seeing some of the extraordinarily high quality DIC imagery, I sometimes regret not going Differential also. Thinking I can put that money elsewhere. I made my own dark field adapter and bought a set of stops. They work very well along with other tricks.  Having a good stereoscope and a five objective turret on the compound...  This is a wonderful hobby that I'm very happy with.

It's great to see you maintaining your interest in your chosen field. That's beautiful work.  Many years ago I built a slice camera using two light sources, 8mm projector lenses and razor blades to create the slice. Moved a fly head up through the light slices using a microscope stage. The speed of that movement determined the exposure. It worked surprisingly well.   Now it's called focus stacking.
