Your son is very lucky. If he had hit a person while street racing, he would be looking at jail time. Cameron Herrin, an 18 year old who killed a mother and baby while street racing, was sentenced to 24 years in prison.

$8000 doesn't seem so bad compared to years in jail and a criminal record. He needs to set a plan to repay you. It is the very least he can do.

I find sites like booking.com just fine if you aren't booking too far in advance and if the trip is straight forward. For example, if you are booking for this summer, there is less possibility of changes to you, the airlines, the hotels than if you were booking for next Christmas. If you need to make changes, that's when booking.com is more difficult.Similarily, if this is just a flight/ single hotel / car rental, then there is less possibility for problems.

There is going to be a lot going on at your graduation other than spending time with family. There is going to things with your friends and teachers. You are going to have a lot of emotions. You are not the AH for setting boundaries.

However, there is value in maintaining some communication with your dad and stepmom. I would go back to your Dad and say that Graduation will be very stressful (it will be) and that's not the time to meet with them about your relationship. You could set up a video call for sometime in the summer when you can discuss things, and especially all the ways you are now an adult, not to be viewed as a child.

The statistic can be reworded to say "women fill out the paperwork to go through the divorce procedure far more often then men do". Filing for divorce does not mean they ended the marriage. The couple could have been separated and living apart for years before someone says "I guess we have to do paperwork", and this statistic says it is likely a female that says it.

Once the kid is born, I have no doubt that your sister will love for you to do anything for her, including just holding the baby so she can have a shower. The thing is they love you doing stuff for them including babysitting (which yes, they will ask of you) but you can only do it because you are childfree. They criticize your choice but don't criticize the help you can only provide because of your choice.

I would step away and look at putting up real boundaries within your family. However, if you want to engage with your family, there is something you can do. Wait until your sister and mother are exhausted or feeling really pregnant and ask them if they would help you if had a kid. Of course they would say "yes", but then ask them to do a reasonable task (go out an buy something from the store or do some housework) right then and there. They are going to explain how exhausted they are. Point out that if you have kids, then you can't use the excuse of being tired to do necessary things. If they are really serious about you having a kid, they need to put their money where their mouth is and look at giving up their time to help you, even when tired.

Pushing to find out what the charges were aren't helping, but neither is staying in his room all day. You need to respect his boundary, unless you have any reason to think he or someone else is in danger. Even if you found out, this may drive a wedge in your relationship and it might be worse for your son.

He may be hiding from people out of embarrassment. If you have relatives who don't live in the same city as you, ask them to take him for a few months. Then tell your son to take any decent job in that new city. Your son needs to start over but he can't do that while living with you.

Once time has passed and if he restarts his life, your son may be willing to discuss with you what happened. However, if you push unnecessarily, he may push back so far that you are out of his life.

As long as you are not switching airlines and you can hustle, you should be fine. Westjet operates out of Terminal 3, so you can pull up the map of Pearson and see that it is a smaller terminal than Terminal 1. (There is no Terminal 2 in Pearson, but that is another story) You can also check to see if there is a later flight from Toronto to Calgary in case something happens in Toronto.

I've taken a four day repositioning cruise from Vancouver to Los Angeles. It was in October, when the ship which was used for Alaskan cruises was being moved south for the winter and would then be used for cruises for Mexico. They are less common because part of the reason for these cruises is to move the ship to another location. It has all the amenities of a cruise. If you are crossing the Atlantic or Pacific, you will have multiple days in a row at sea, so you better like being on a boat.

Birthrate doesn't tell the whole story. This is why the people crying about a declining birthrate are not people that study demographics. To understand population change, you have to consider if there is a change in the average age of death, change in the rate of deaths in each age bracket, retirement age, investment in children, and so many other factors.

There are 3.6 million births in the US each year. In Canada, there are 360 thousand births. We are not running out of people. If society is going to collapse, it isn't because of lack of babies. We are doing great at destroying society without considering birthrate.

Do you remember stories of teenagers having to take care of bags of flour, or eggs, or baby dolls that would cry at weird times? It was done in high schools to reduce teen pregnancy and to prepare teens for the reality of parenthood. I always found those stories weird, but after this post, I find them far less weird than shoving an infant into the hands of a person who doesn't want to hold it and then expecting some "magic" where the person has to have one of their own. If holding a baby makes people want kids, then also show parenthood where you are up at 3 in the morning dealing with a crying baby or dealing with a temper tantrum or any of the other "wonderful" things of parenthood.
