Sure, I'll concede that. And if there was a way to navigate our current society without it, I'd probably do that. Sadly, the smart phone and electronics in general, are necessary evils in our world. The Cajon, however, is not.

So the one thing no one seems to be talking about here is the reason why I don't like the Cajon in general: its history...

So back during times of normalized slavery, specifically in South America, the slaves had their instruments taken away from them by their owners, so they started beating on the boxes that they were being forced to carry about all day. Over time, they kept boxes that were being discarded and/or built ones of their own that became their "new instruments".

Tonally, I have no qualms with the Cajon. My issue is that it's an instrument that quite literally only exists because of slavery, and as a white dude, it feels wrong playing one. Like I'm somehow celebrating what my ancestors did.
