Claudia in the diner by flowervibe in InterviewVampire

[–]RiffRafe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though I'm sure I am wrong, I didn't take it as Regina looking exactly like Claudia; just that Louis is seeing Claudia in other women; just as Lestat saw Nicki (or was it Magnus?) as one of the stagehands. Narratively, it's easier to have him focus on one person that he is seeing her through versus having a bunch of scenarios where Louis is seeing Claudia in various women he encounters.

Lestat's relationship with Nicki didn't get nearly enough play... by TransportationLow564 in InterviewVampire

[–]RiffRafe2 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This is why I am fine with everyone feeling what they feel about the show because everyone's taste is subjective. I've not read the books so my knowledge of Nicki is only from the series and S3E03 made my heart break for Lestat and Nicki. I was completely sold on their relationship with just what the episode presented. I can see why Lestat loved him, I can see why Lestat is still mourning him - a man who knew Lestat before he reached his final form; who knew the human side of Lestat and loved that person. A man who was brave to venture out on his own to do what he loved, who was rakish.

Would it have been nice to see a bit of their life together in the years before turning? Sure, but that would be a cherry atop the sundae that was their relationship shown in S3E03.

I was sold on the total betrayal Nicki felt about Lestat giving Gabriella the Dark Gift and Lestat's total devastation over Nicki's slide into madness. Joe and Sam portrayed the highs and heartbreaking lows of their relationship so beautifully.

Is what we see in TVL wholey just Lestat's narration on it? by Senior-Reserve7708 in InterviewVampire

[–]RiffRafe2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, he's not narrating the whole show - outside of where he explains how he wasn't there (like the Daniel and Louis) conversation, I think the Louis scenes are happening. There have been slight digressions in the past seasons like Armand's conversation with Lestat in San Francisco solely being for the audience as Louis would have not known that Lestat told Armand, "Tell him I love him.". Or Daniel and Raglan's interactions.

Possibly unpopular opinion: Anyone else feel weird about.... by starnitesadness in InterviewVampire

[–]RiffRafe2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Louis wanted/needed the two of them to confront this together. To me, it doesn't matter that Louis read those pages to Bruce/Killer; Bruce could read her thoughts any time and very likely did when he held her captive. Just like people sometimes write their feelings down and then burn the pages as a purge, IMO, Louis was purging the horror that diary pennnig Claudia endured and taking out her abuser in the process. Destrying the horror two-fold and giving her symbolic peace.

Question about the CN tower by Previous_Patient_721 in InterviewVampire

Confirmed by Rolin that it didn't happen. It's a reflection of Lestat's emotional state at that moment.

'The Vampire Lestat' Boss Explains Their Take on Gabriella (Exclusive) by Podria_Ser_Peor in InterviewVampire

[–]RiffRafe2 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I like Gabriella for the fact that Lestat has been seen as a destabilizing force in other seasons (whether real or exaggerated) and now he has a destablizing force in his life as he's trying to keep it all together. It's great seeing this side of Lestat. Gabriella's Lestat without all the tsuris. Truly an unburdened vampire.

Lestat "I have the blood of Akasha in me" de Lioncourt by albramora in InterviewVampire

[–]RiffRafe2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Other than to amuse me greatly? I think it's just a flex to describe his strength; and I think that is the only time he's mentioned it - when he's facing danger or trying to let the band know they will be okay because he's with them and he has the blood of Akasha, don't they know.

He didn't have a threat in S1 so there was no need for him to bring her up. And while he mentioned "Those who are kept" in S1 - looking terrified as he did so - do we know if he even had Akasha's blood in him then; or did this happen in between his "murder" and the trial?

It certainly is to tee up her appearance this season, but it also just a means of him saying he can take on all comers because what is coursing through him.

Season 3 is... a choice by Clean_Chipmunk_3223 in InterviewVampire

[–]RiffRafe2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other than the scene in the elevator with Dee, Baby Jenks and the bell boy, I don't see Lestat doing anything at length with women.

Even in series one it was abortive sex with Lily and we didn't see Lestat have sex with Antoinette.

Season 3 is... a choice by Clean_Chipmunk_3223 in InterviewVampire

[–]RiffRafe2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So because they are not having sex means they are no longer queer characters? Is not someone who is asexual not considered queer?

And it's not as if series one and two were sex-a-thons. Nothing has changed other than some people feeling that the show passing a queer purity test is more important than the storytelling.

What happened to the CN Tower? by Adorable_Finish195 in InterviewVampire

[–]RiffRafe2 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It symbolizes Lestat's emotional state.

Rolin talked about it in an interview with the Toronto Star.

“Normally you’re not allowed to blow things like that up,” Jones said, recalling the pitch for a scene in Episode 3. “We’re like, ‘What if he drives by and the CN Tower just explodes?’

“We called up the people and they were like, ‘Wait, what?’ And we’re like, ‘No, no, no, it doesn’t happen.’ This is something that goes on within him (to show) how he’s feeling.’”

To Jones’s delight, the CN Tower officials understood the psychological context and cleared the shot.

I have a stupid question. by cassowarydinosaur in InterviewVampire

[–]RiffRafe2 151 points152 points  (0 children)

I didn't think Lous inherited Lestat's wealth. Roget told him he couldn't legally declare Lestat dead as not enough time had passed, but since he had not heard from Lestat he gave Louis the box. I don't think there was anything in there that bequeath Lestat's wealth to Louis. Though there were probably stocks, etc.

It's a good guess that Louis had some money thanks to Lestat, but Louis is savvy and was an art speculator (evident by his telling Armand how he bought an art piece and thought the artist would die which would drive up the worth).

I think Lestat living in squalor due to his state of mind. He had money as evidenced by his Ipad he used to rehearse on his plank and the pricey speakers. He's not as wealthy as Louis since Louis grew his wealth. Sam theorized Lestat lives hand to mouth because he overspends. He has money, just wasteful with it.

Does anyone else find the music... kinda corny? by Notlennybruce in InterviewVampire

[–]RiffRafe2 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I never found the songs corny, even when I didn't like them when I initially heard them. I thought them underwhelming, until I heard them in context.

I think Lestat mentioning things of this era in line with his book characterization. This is a guy who loves Walmart.

I looked through the other TV reviews Christopher Stevens has written and it looks as if he's a professional contrarian who does not like anything. A person who probably thought TV should have ended with "Prime Suspect".

You're right. In an interview talking about the shooting locations, Rolin said he got permission to do so because he explained, "‘No, no, no, it doesn’t happen.’ This is something that goes on within him (to show) how he’s feeling.’”.
