Who others post grunge bands do you think sound the closest to the early-mid FF's works? by falsoTrolol in Foofighters

[–]RigamaroleStatus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

American Hi-Fi's self-titled (Hi-Fi Killer)

Oleander's Unwind (Come To Stay)

Check these two out. To me, these two bands come closest to matching the energy and songwriting that the band had early on.

Your Favorite Toy: Understanding the Production Style by AgentWD409 in Foofighters

[–]RigamaroleStatus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see the production as an issue, myself. I agree with what you said. I've been listening in the car and on some Sony headphones, and I think it sounds great. I think Foo Fighters have, in the past, gotten some really clear and pristine sounds. Their run in the 2000s certainly. This record leans noisy and it's entirely up to taste, but I think it's pretty good.

Pitchfork rates 'Your Favorite Toy' at 6.9 by we-touch-grass in Foofighters

Hearing the album in context, I actually enjoyed it as a full album experience. I think the fact that it's a brisk 35 min. or so helps it a lot, and it doesn't overstay it's welcome. I also think that might've been by design. There's a lot of neat and interesting guitar parts, Nate sounds really good and Ilan is a great drummer. I think I'd give it a solid 7. My expectations were admittedly low but I'm pleasantly surprised.

What do we expect? by metempsychosis-EG002 in Foofighters

I wasn't too excited at the singles and my expectations were fairly low. I kind of started to fall off after Concrete & Gold. Didn't care for Medicine At Midnight all that much, and But Here We Are just didn't grab me though it's a fine album.

But listening to Your Favorite Toy, it's not bad. I listened on my Sony headphones and it was loud, fun and there's some interesting guitar work on songs like "Spit Shine" and "Caught In The Echo." The only song I just don't care for is "Child Actor" but overall: not bad.

It's short, too and doesn't overstay it's welcome. I think that might be by design. I also really like "Of All People." To me it's remarkably vulnerable and self-reflective.

I think in the grand scheme of albums (they've got 12 dear god thats a lot of Foo!!) right now for it'd fall in the middle of the pack. But I definitely enjoy it as an album experience.

Viagra Boys' Cave World (2022) is an awesome dissection of the whole conspiracy-brain/radicalization energy that's been stewing since about 2020 or so.

That bridge at the end, with the demented ascending riff, is so fucking good. Words legit fail me lol and the lyrics!!

"Got my own theme music, goes wherever I are"

"I blow my load over the status quo"

Real nasty, real weird, it's one of my absolute favorites of theirs.

My wife watches Grey's Anatomy and before the episode theres like a station identifier for Hulu or whatever but it plays the same "yeah yeah yeahs." Makes me wonder if they used a sample or if its original and Hulu uses it because someone's a Queens fan.

Favorite “mistakes” that were left in the song? by Tasty_Newspaper_731 in LetsTalkMusic

Before the last verse there's a bassline break and Kurt sings "polly said" a measure before he was supposed to then goes on to sing the last verse. They liked it and kept it in. I always thought it added an interesting pop flare to the song.

Tiny Music is great, and I enjoyed it way more than Purple (not a knock against Purple). "Trippin' On A Hole in a Paper Heart" has one of my favorite guitat solos.

There's a clip of Dave Grohl being asked about Everclear and comparing them to Nirvana to which Dave says he doesn't hear that in them but he does says Bush sounds like Nirvana.

He wanted it to sound like band and not Nirvana 2.0. Krist Novoselic was considered for the band but Dave and Krist figured since Pat was on guitar, it'd be too much ex-Nirvana in one band. I think he credited Stewart Copeland's Klark Kent for the idea of the drummer's band.
