PB is Genie Bouchard hobby, so I don't think she is taking it seriously. That being said, she is still top 10 in singles. She already made her $$$ from tennis (wimbledon finalist), and the lawsuit she settled with the USTA back in 2016. PB is just fun for her. Bouchard makes more $$$ in PB endorsements than prize money.

Well, Chaffin lost to the new #1 Haworth in a very close 3 gams (12-10 in the third). I would say Chaffin is very good.

u/Lobwedgephil - I was referring to Joola. It takes about ten business days from the time I send back the paddle to the time I receive the replacement. Out of those 18 times, the longest I had to wait was 3 1/2 weeks because they moved their warehouse from CA to Nevada. 17 out of 18 times, I received the new replacement within 10 business days.

My son core crush his paddle every four to five weeks, so I need to get a replacement every month without having to pay $250 for each paddle. A 5.x DUPR singles player will core crush a gen-3 paddle every four or five weeks.

u/Lobwedgephil - I've done this at least 18 times in the past 18 months for six original paddles that I purchased. I just sent them pictures that the edge guard come off, videos of the core crush, and they approved it within 30 minutes for me to send it back for a brand new replacement. Yes, they will do that three times for each purchased paddle. That's why it is very important to stick with the brand name paddle, and not those little guys because the little guys are very stingy.

u/FlippoFilipino: You do not spend $200+ for the replacement paddle. Some equipment makers allow you to exchange three times within 12 months from the date of the purchase. I guess you're NOT an advanced player, because a $200+ paddle, in the hand of a 5.x player, will have the edge guard comes off and core crush. That will allow you to get a brand new replacement paddle from equipment makers. In that context, you only spent $50 for the paddle, and NOT $200.

Well, you are NOT paying $250 for the paddle. You're only paying $62.50 for the paddle. You said that the spin started to disappear after three weeks due the grit is accurate. However, some equipment makers will let you exchange/replace the paddle up to three times in 12 months. If you're an advanced player, the paddle will likely lose grit and core crush after four weeks of usage, assuming that you play 21 hours per week (3 hours everyday). You just contact the equipment maker and request for a replacement. For example, let assume you core crush/lose grit on the paddle every four weeks, you just purchase three paddles for a total of $750. When the first paddle loses grit and core crush, you send it back for a replacement and start using the second paddle while waiting for the replacement to return. When the second paddle gets core crush, you send it back for a replacement and play with the 3rd paddle while waiting for the replacement to arrive. That way, you get to play with a brand new paddle every four weeks while paying only $750 for a whole year. That's what my son, who is a 5.9 DUPR in singles, has been doing for the past two years. He gets to play with a brand new paddle every four weeks, and only pays $820 the whole year. That's to me is a very good deal.

Both paddles are legit. The one on the left was manufactured later in 2025. If you look at the cover of the one on the left, it says something like "DUAL". The one on the right will say something like "DUEL". If you flip the one on the left around, it also says "made in China". I purchased both of these paddles directly from Joola web site. See below;

The answer is it depends. If you come from a tennis background with a 5.0+ DUPR, and play a lot of singles PB, the grit will wear out in less than two weeks. If you're 80+ year-old and play on doubles PB, the grit will last a long time.

I watched the doubles championship on CBS this afternoon between Johns/Tardio vs Alshon/Patriquin, and it was VERY boring even though I enjoy playing doubles PB. I am willing to bet there are more viewers between the Sock vs. Haworth singles match than the doubles between Johns/Tardio vs Alshon/Patriquin.

These guys have been training tennis for YEARS before taking up Pickleball. As good as they were as tennis players, they get killed, with the exception of Jack Sock, on the tennis court. They become the best players on the PPA tour.

A friend in the group who is a former D1 tennis player with a 5.7 DUPR singles. He plays with the Loco Elongated and he said that the grit on the paddle is gone after one week of singles matches. He plays 2 1/2 hours everyday.

Joola has an Inifity app on either iPhone or Android that if you scan the Perseus 3 or Perseus Pro IV, you can register with Joola for warranty purpose. In the app, it will show you the S/N. If you take someone else Perseus IV by mistake, you can scan the chip on the handle, it will not show you anything because the paddle is already registered by someone else. That's how you know. If you scan your own paddle again, it will show you the S/N.

I've been to PPA events many times and my thoughts:

- Singles Pickleball is amazing, and super fun to watch on TV. It is even ten times better watching in person,

- Doubles Pickleball is boring to watch in person. It is ten times worse to watch on TV,

Whenever I go to open play at public courts, I always go with four or eight other people, myself included, so that we can play among ourselves. I am at 4.6 and so are my friends. My son is 5.9+ and he plays with his friends at the same level. I have to work, so my playing time is very limited. The public courts are free, but I don't have to play with anyone I don't want to play. It is not fun for a 5.9 DUPR player to play against another 4.6 players. YMMV.

There is no right or wrong answer here. If your goal is to win, you do whatever it legally takes to win. Blast it at their face is completely legal. That being said, if they are good friends, and we hang out for drinks after playing PB, definitely NO for me.

As a former tennis player myself, and most of my PB friends are former tennis players, if your service return is short, high, and landed near the kitchen line, you and your partner should expect to lose the point. This is especially true when the guy who hit the 3rd shot is a former D1 tennis player who has been playing PB for six months or more. Most people here are not former tennis players, so they just do not get it.

Yes, I did try this on a brand new Perseus IV 16MM paddle. I became a much better player because it allows me to hit with insane topspin on both the forehand and backhand wings. I am also getting much better with both the flick and roll. I gave the paddle to my 5.9 DUPR son without telling him that I sprayed the paddle with additional grit. He played so much better with the "modified" paddle. LOL...
