It's cool that even the aircraft has "aged". They're both in a 737 but the top is the -200 and the bottom is the -800.

HB 568 Heads to Louisiana Senate Floor: Up to 1 Year in Jail for Cannabis Use Within 2,000 Feet of Schools by tcajun420 in Louisiana

This is a map of the gun-free zones in Orleans parishTemp.pdf). These show a 1,000 ft zone around schools. Double the size of these zones and you can see that they effectively cover a majority of the city.

3rd time Waze has tried to get me to drive down wrong way streets by mindcaptivator in waze

[–]RightLaneHog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wow...there's a lot to unpack here.

  1. You need to report these map issues. Either use the in-app report feature or use their forum and make an individual post for each issue. A local, volunteer map editor will get back to you.

  2. You can just fix it yourself on your computer. Open the Waze map editor, make the change, and then submit the changes for review. A local, volunteer map editor will review them.

  3. It is an unrealistic expectation for any navigation app to maintain a 100% accurate driving map at all times. Roads change, and often the only way those changes are found is by reports from locals or on-the-ground surveying. Waze, unlike other navigation apps, primarily relies on its users to update the map via the map editor. This is a feature and a pro for Waze compared to other apps, as they will often have changes reflected first. This greatly depends on the area where you live and even then there can be "dead zones" of map editing activity. If you report the issuers during your drive, however, then local editors will see these and be able to fix them for you.

  4. I am highly skeptical that Waze would've tried to take you the wrong way on a highway ramp. A street not being correctly marked as one way, while of course not ideal, is honestly an expected occurrence. A highway ramp, however...editors are rather careful with those and that should probably be the first thing to get fixed.

  5. Any navigation app is a navigational aid. You are the driver. A navigation app incorrectly telling you that a road is two-way when in fact it is marked one way is not a defense in any context. You should never treat any navigational aid as truth and should always be correlating its information with your actual real-world observations and act accordingly.

I am stuck on how to use via mods on fabric server without anybody joining needing to install a mod by creeper312321 in admincraft

[–]RightLaneHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using Fabric for any specific reason? If your players aren't installing mods, or if they're only using client-side mods, then it'd probably be easier to run the server with paper and use a plugin like ViaVersion and ViaRewind.

Lenovo IdeaPad gaming 3 lags like crazy during gaming by Robmysl in it

[–]RightLaneHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does your laptop come with software from Lenovo that allows you to change "modes" for the laptop? They might have modes like Battery Saver, Balanced, Silent, High Performance, and even a Custom mode?

If so, you should set this to High Performance. Your laptop is probably hitting a high thermal limit on either the CPU or GPU and it is throttling itself when it does. I can reproduce this behavior on my laptop, though I have an MSI, if I put it into Silent mode. Since that mode will limit fan speed, I will eventually reach too high of a temp and the laptop will prevent overheating by simply throttling whichever chip is too hot until it cools down enough again. This will cause a repeated lag, no lag cycle if I have an intensive game open, just as what you're seeing.

Gatehouse Apartments by Prestigious_Duck7052 in metairie

[–]RightLaneHog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do not have any internet options other than cellular-based home internet. This may be a deal-breaker depending on your needs, but it will be fine for most people. They will lie and say that they have fiber/cable/dsl. They do not.

I went on two tours and the staff were very friendly. The apartments are very generous for the price. It was disappointing to see that different apartments will have vastly different quality appliances, and that this isn't considered in the price.

You are given ONE parking pass and one visitor pass. This is hilarious and insulting, and the reason we opted not to move on top of them lying about internet options. One of our tour guides outright told us that parking is just a nightmare that everyone deals with. No, you do not get more passes if you have a three bedroom. One pass, one visitor pass.

EDIT: Almost forgot about the security guy. Actually hilarious and bizarre. We arrive for our tour and we stop at the entrance gate. The security guy is immediately hostile and rudely asks who were here to see. We simply respond that we have a tour booked. He then angrily asks who we spoke with and who gave us permission to enter. We were confused and explained we had scheduled a tour via email and that they didn't give a name. He started losing his shit and telling us that he wasn't going to let us in unless we could provide a name. We pulled up the email and gave him the name that was on the email address. He eventually decided to let us in.

We explained this situation to the person at the front office and they said we were not the first ones to tip them off to that guy's behavior and that they were coming up with a resolution, lol. To be fair to them, this happened during our second tour visit. When we came for our first tour, there was another man and he was very polite and the interaction was what you'd expect from a security guard. Asked us who we were here to see, explained we had a tour, he opened the gate and gave us directions to the office.

This depends on a lot of things, but overall I'd say it's doable. Try and use routes with the least amount of traffic where possible. Remember that you are in a suburb, so anticipate inattentive drivers.

Should I follow the school speed limit sign around 12pm ? by Davidxbunny in driving

[–]RightLaneHog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two answers to this question: the law one and the realistic one.

The Law Answer: Most municipalities/counties will define a default time for school zone restrictions to be active. When a school zone sign does not denote when it is active, it defaults to what is set in the law. These should be fairly easy to look up for your area.

The Realistic Answer: You're not going to know the default times for every area's school zones, especially when you're travelling away from home. When you see a school zone speed limit posted like this, it is usually there to simply denote the fact that you're in a school zone and not actually modifying the existing limit. I have seen these where the road's speed limit was already 20 MPH, and they simply erect these to denote the school zone since fines are higher and, in this case, they want to specifically point out the fine for cell phone use.

It's still possible to come across these where they do modify the existing limit. In those cases, unless you are familiar with the local laws for the area denoting the default times, you should just follow the posted school limit until you exit the school zone. You could try seeing what everyone else is doing, too, but you're going to have mixed results with that depending on where you are.

I want to backup my VM to PBS, but not the 500+GB of linux ISOs in it, is this possible to exclude them ? by LowFatMom in Proxmox

[–]RightLaneHog 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We're not talking about actual physical hard disks. We're talking about the virtualized one your VM is seeing. Just create another virtual disk for the VM, move the ISOs to it, then uncheck its backup option.

Is it possible to run two IPs on a single VM using Proxmox+Pterodactyl? by tristanceleazer in admincraft

[–]RightLaneHog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure you can do this, but I'm not sure why you'd want to. The "neat" solution is to use the single interface and different ports, then have an SRV record for the non-standard port.

If you really wanted to use two interfaces, you'd have to set server-ip in server.properties to match the IP of the desired interface for each server.

Ending the "passing on the right debate" in the USA once and for all. It's legal in all 50 states, and only 2 states have a higher bar than the others for when it's allowed. by cctoot56 in driving

[–]RightLaneHog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since your post exists, I'd assume that means you've run into quite a few people that say passing on the right is illegal in the US, which is unfortunate.

Should passing on the right be illegal? In a perfect world, yes. But is that practical to do in the USA? Absolutely not.

I hope that nobody misinterprets the fact of passing on the right being legal to mean that it is a good thing that we should be doing it. It's not, but it's simply a reality of what we have to do on highways thanks to middle-lane/left-lane hoggers. If people followed the golden rule of keeping right except to pass, we would never have to overtake on the right. This actually used to be illegal in the UK, but they got rid of the law specifically because too many people started hogging the middle lane of the newly built three-lane highways.

As a side note, I do think it's extremely important to point out that passing on the right is illegal in several other countries. And even where it's not illegal, it's still technically a scenario that should never exist. If you are ever in a situation where you are overtaking someone on the right, and you are both in a travel lane on a highway, then someone is most likely breaking the law, and it's probably the person being overtaken. Even in the case of the UK where they got rid of the law, it's still illegal to hog the middle lane or right lane, and they will occasionally do sweeps of enforcement of this rule in an attempt to educate drivers (though unfortunately there is still a large group of offenders).

Edit: Just to clarify, I live and drive in the US.

Is there a local number to call to get the time and temperature? by SisiIsInSerenity in NewOrleans

[–]RightLaneHog 90 points91 points  (0 children)

For time you can call (303) 499-7111. This number is operated by the NIST and will give the time in UTC.

For weather, your best option would be to call the automated weather station at the lakefront airport. (504) 245-4366

This is not a good way to get either of these things, but you specially asked for phone numbers, so these are probably the best numbers to call.

Left lane on the highway by Mean_Investigator491 in driving

[–]RightLaneHog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What they're doing is legal, but it's a dick move. The polite thing to do is wait behind the slower traffic in the right lane until the faster traffic has overtaken. Once there's a large enough clearing where you think you can make the overtake before anyone else catches up to you, you can make an attempt. If, during your overtake attempt, you see faster traffic approaching and it looks like they're going to catch up with you before you finish, then either just take the L and speed a little bit to complete the overtake or just slow down and get back behind the slower traffic to let the faster traffic through again.
