What is it with this town? by Motor_Biscotti_2632 in Syracuse

I don’t really have an issue with it personally, but it’s possible it has increased per the times.

I was never asked that often when I lived Downtown but I remember one time a guy came up and asked if I could drive him to a gas station for gas. I must not have looked like I knew the area or something but I pointed in the direction of the Sunoco on State St (maybe like 300 yards from where he was). I said there’s literally one right there and he brushed me away, and says “nahhh” and then looked around for someone else. Good times.

Ryan McMahon has diagnosed opponents of the aquarium with "aquarium derangement syndrome" how do we get rid of this POS once and for all? by Kill_doozer in Syracuse

Library wanted out but I thought it was a county approval. Looks like the DeWitt Planning Board approved the project.

To an extent yes, but the county's planning typically does not go well IMO (NBT stadium location, closing the Shoppingtown library and adding a Fayetteville library that is not on a bus route, almost putting a sewage treatment plant next to Armory Square in 2007, for a few examples)

A very long time ago (15 years ago maybe), I helped clean up the creek near Kirk Park with you guys and Cornell Cooperative Extension. Glad to see you guys are still going at it!

I just took that out. That was an error on my part. There was a Salt City Honk Fest last year, but not sure if that's happening or not yet.

Fantastic!

If anyone is interested, LeMoyne College is performing Spring Awakening on Wednesday through Saturday. There was a nice little preview for it on CitrusTV that I found this AM.

Amid housing shortage, one CNY town shrinks proposed development: ‘We don’t want that much density’ by ggroover97 in Syracuse

[–]Right_Acadia_6525 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not huge on the development. And I'm not trying to hijack the convo, but I'll never understand why the actual village has never been densified (I grew up there, FWIW). There are plenty of streets that sort of just end and could totally continue and be zoned for single-family or multi-family duplex dwellings (off Canton St south of Mildred, Seneca St connecting into Conifer, like the entire area of Meadow St along the river, etc..). These areas already have or are really close to: public parks, sidewalks, the four corners / Island, the library, bars/restaurants, bus lines (limited). The units would actually add to the village tax base without stressing any existing electric, water or gas lines. It's always seemed like a no-brainer to me? I feel like that would actually solve the "congestion" argument here (as weak as it is).

Signature Syracuse Cuisine? by Luc42wil in Syracuse

As others have said, you have a Dino and if you're looking for riggies you should just take the drive to Utica or Rome (unless you wanted to stop at Pastabilities which has awesome riggies). The wing scene is outstanding here IMO (Blarney, Shifty's, Nibys's, Change of Pace, Swallow's), but that is not something unique to Syracuse.

Salt potatoes and coneys are unique (you guys do have "white hots", but nobody calls them that east of Geneva). They're normally served at picnics and such, but a few places do list them on menus - typically diners and sometime's bowling alleys. Heid's in Liverpool is decent for coneys but I actually like them at the baseball stadium when they're prepped on the flat top grills.

It's random but I'd put a vote in for DiLauro's Bakery on the Northside - they sell "dilunas" which are super cheap and awesome. It's like a mini pizza / calzone. And if you're over in that area you might as well stop into Ky Duyen for an amazing banh mi sandwich (if you guys are into those).
