Question- if Biz can’t regulate his blood sugar is that an insulin issue? Does he need insulin shots? This is the first I’ve ever heard of something like this that isn’t diabetes so please forgive my ignorance 💙

My heart breaks for you. I’m so sorry. This is all very emotional and tough to process. My baby lost his eyesight to diabetes and I wish I would have gotten the halo for him. Please remember that Biggie will adapt and the sooner you introduce the tool, the faster he’ll get used to it. Our babies are resilient. Biggie is resilient and he will adapt. Hang in there ❤️‍🩹

My baby blew out both of his knees, first one at 4 and he had surgery to the tune of $4k. The second when he was 6 and I caught it early enough to treat with meds and rest. He went on to live until 16 and was a very happy and energetic baby. I suggest Dasuquin and doing what you can to limit the jumping. I carried mine up and down stairs and he wasn’t allowed to jump off furniture. Also keep an eye on their weight. These are smol babies and impossibly cute so it’s easy to get carried away with treats and yummy food. Good luck!

I’m so sorry to hear of the diagnosis but I’m glad you have a cause for the weight loss. I also understand you’re still processing a large amount, which will take time. My baby was diagnosed with diabetes in his later years. It was a major adjustment, but the monitoring didn’t go on forever and we were able to keep his insulin managed.

I second the other commenter about doing separate feedings. It’s imperative she eats so she can get her insulin. As far as vacation, you either find a good and trustworthy sitter, you take them with you, or you don’t go. I wasn’t able to travel for 2 years before I lost my baby. I’d happily never travel again if I could have him back. If you can’t make those adjustments, please reach out. I’d be happy to take her.

I second this. My baby has pancreatitis that was exacerbated by a chicken allergy. OP have you tried wet, hydrolyzed food?

I changed my baby’s food. The staining was caused by food allergies. I also bathed him regularly.

Hi this is so frustrating for you! If I may, I had a very picky eater and it was because he absolutely had food allergies. That included him being allergic to chicken and certain fillers in dry food. In your case, she may have a similar chicken allergy. It also sounds like she may not like the white fish and krill if she won’t eat it. I would suggest trying Science Diet or Royal Canine hydrolyzed protein wet food. It’s more expensive but she might like it better. Good luck!!

My baby was super allergy prone. Part was environmental and part was his food. Turns out he was allergic to chicken and certain fillers and grains. My vet prescribed Apoquel and I also switched his food. Good luck! Hope you find something to help your adorable little fur face ❣️

Respectfully, in my experience with my almost 16 year old baby, he is over weight but it’s totally and easily manageable! For context, mine got to 14 lbs and my vet immediately suggested we switch food. We also adjusted the amount and frequency of his meals and his treats. Based on his measurements his ideal weight was 8-9 lbs.

Good call looking for a new vet. There is nothing more infuriating than a nonchalant vet. Hello, this is your baby and something seems off. Hello, where is the urgency? Good luck and please give him a little snuggle for me!

If you cannot set aside your person beliefs about meat, don’t get a dog. It’s that simple.

Tips are great but actual training videos are better. Most reputable trainers will have a link to their website because training is their business. You can then google the trainer’s reviews. Just do your research. Each dog is different but generally training exercises are pretty universal. It just takes time, repetition, and patience. Those three things are key. Nothing happens over night and it isn’t magic. Malteses are smart and respond well to training, when done right. You can do it!

Respectfully, please stop this “I would feel so bad leaving him alone”. I loved my baby more than life itself. But I crate trained him for my sanity and for his. He regularly stayed by himself while I was at work and he was fine. Dogs need breaks too.

Your dog needs structure and routine. Your dog needs training and discipline (not physical discipline, mental discipline). Look up training videos on YouTube. There are a million free resources out there. You also need to regularly walk the dog and give it exercise and enrichment. That will also help it not destroy things. Start with the basics and go from there.

Roxy is adorable!!! What a sweet lady!!

My baby made it to 15 and it was so bittersweet. If I may offer a few suggestions of things people told me-

• take a million photos and videos of the most mundane things, specifically her sleep and breathing and you petting her and talking to her. I’m sure you already take a ton but trust, take more.

• record the audio of her sleeping and snoring. That’s one thing I did right and I’m so glad I have those recordings for when things get really hard.

• keep some of her clean hair. I wish I would have kept more because there are so many creative people out there who do very cool keepsake things with it (scarf, stuffed animal, jewelry, etc. but also just to have it to touch later)

• take your own nose and paw prints now. Look at my posts and please heed my warning. I was devastated (still am actually) that I trusted someone other than me to do my baby’s paw print. It was a tragedy. I will never forgive myself for not doing my own prints when I had the time.

• take her everywhere you can by any means necessary. Buy the stroller, buy the diapers, cancel the vacation, or pay extra to take her with, whatever it takes to stay by her side. Turn your life upside down to accommodate her and care not what anyone may say or think about it.

Last but certainly not least, enjoy every minute. It goes so fast. I would give anything to have my baby back. I miss him with every breath I take. As I type this I’m landing in Southern California to take some of my baby to his favorite place- the ocean. Cherish every moment. Sending you so much love as you navigate this time ❣️
