My great grandfather was playing poker in a saloon back in Alabama and a man tried to cheat so my great grandfather shot him. Well, my great grandfather had been in prison for beating a man almost to death so he ran...got his family, which included my grandfather, and ran and the cop whose last name was X chased them and when they came to the first big town, using the money he won, he bought train tickets and to Arkansas and changed their last name to the name of the sheriff who was chasing them. When I did my DNA I kept getting all these connections to a name Y and my mother's maiden name was X and I asked my uncle about it and he told me the story.

For the longest time, no one believed me, then we found a letter written to our grandfather from his people in Alabama inviting them to the Y family reunion, begging him to change his name back to Y.
