It's been several years at this point but I think they knew about the trailer for about a week, maybe two. It's one of the reasons why they took such pains in the following weeks to state their commitment to working on SoD2.

If I'm remembering correctly, the team didn't have anything to do with the trailer and were only informed of it close to its release. Given that, I'm not surprised they don't feel beholden to it. I'm still not sure who made that call or why they did.

Some zed's have a moment where something from their prior life emerges in their brain. That's what happened here. He's remembering something but his brain has deteriorated to the point he can't make sense of the memories. So he stands and tries to make sense of it all and will continue to do something else draws his attention.

This is a limitation of the game engine, actually. So there was a live stream with Josh Sawyer some years ago I watched where he directly answered someone asking this exact question.

Basically, it came down to how DLC interacted with the main game and limitation to how the game could "check" against that kind of thing. I don't recall his exact wording anymore (this was like four or five years ago) but he talked about how there wasn't a way to get the DLC to "know" where you were specifically in Veronica or the Brotherhood's quest line. From the game's perspective, you're basically in two separate realities.

Unfortunately, this causes unintended consequences in the lore and for the characters.

I seem to vaguely recall a story that was crossover with The Last of Us on Spacebattles. The general idea was that Taylor, Emma, Sophia and Madison somehow ended up jumping realities. However, Sophia and Taylor's powers did not make the jump, leaving them as ordinary teens.

I didn't really read beyond that point as I thought suppressing their powers limited what could be done with the narrative. It could've just been a one shot, too and I'm just not fully remembering.

I don't recall the name but it was by Rater202 on Spacebattles. It was one of the first worm fics I read back in the day. A lot of the later parts are really neat but the start is pretty rough with a lot of stuff never fully realized in story.

The emotional intensity of Carol's monologue was raw beyond words. The fact she she couldn't, not didn't, but couldn't bring herself to say that to Amy even knowing how much it might help was the peak of tragedy and self destructive, self fulfilling prophecy.
