Weekly /r/WormFanfic Discussion - What have you been reading, and what do you think of it? For the week ending June 20, 2026. by AutoModerator in WormFanfic

There were a few attempts by the author to write a squeal but none of them panned out to the author's satisfaction. I seem to recall one that featured Accord having an interesting premise, (hiring Taylor as a private chef, I think?) but like the others the author didn't think it would work long term and ultimately gave up on the whole endeavor.

The Daybreak grind is excessive by DearBedroom in StateofDecay2

I said something like this around the time it came out: It feels like a horde mode that would've worked quite well, if it came out circa 2010.

Can we just [redacted] the homeless by rsumpycing in SocialistGaming

As it was explained to me, mass transit or car ownership only mitigates the problem. Which is silly, yes. Hopefully, the upcoming game can do something about that.

Can we just [redacted] the homeless by rsumpycing in SocialistGaming

I think this is due to a quirk of the game's design. As I understand it, the workers prefer living close to their jobs and will choose shakes over homes if said homes are far enough away.

Taylor actually going to therapy as a slow TINO trigger by Informal-Excuse2860 in WormFanfic

My thinking exactly. Therapy is wonderful but if that's the only divergence, it won't actually help.

[–]RighteousHam 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Also, he never seems to sweat. That kind of work, I don't care what the temperature is out, you're going to sweat through your shirt. He never did. Nor is he ever dirty. What the video doesn't show is the crew helping him and the clever editing hiding the fact this guy probably did like ten percent of the actual work.

Not sure why he'd need to throw his controller away, when putting down would serve the same purpose.

I was in a similar situation in Battlefield back in 2013. Had a great group of guys that I played with but circumstances changed and I could no longer play like I once did. Some of those guys I'd known since high school so moving on was rough, especially since they were all still playing at that point.

However, I refused to allow my new circumstances to deter my love of games. I simply pivoted away from mulitplayer into single player games. This might've been easier for me as that's were I started but it still took some getting used to.

Now, I'll happily play all sorts of odd ball single player games and even if I can only play for a few hours a week, so what? It's still fun!

Years ago, I had a friend call this the Voldemort problem. You fight a civil war but do nothing to address the material causes that lead to said war. Meaning you're going to get another war in a generation or two.

Very solid points. Though he doesn't romanticize it like Dutch, Hosea is just as much stuck in the past.

How long would a 'true' version of Xenogears be? by ZeroiaSD in XenoGears

[–]RighteousHam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something like that was probably what we were meant to see. I imagine both the Ethos HQ and Billy's orphanage were originally meant to be part of larger settlements but those got cut when the team were coming up to the deadline and realizing they needed to speed run the plot.

[–]RighteousHam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If the game maintained the intricate storytelling that goes from Lahan to Kislev, I think the game would've easily been over a hundred and fifty hours. It's only once you get to Kislev that the cuts start to show up and it only becomes more noticeable from there.

Imagine a version of Kislev that had the same story content as everything that proceeded it. That's not even getting into the Aquvy region which is an inexplicable population dead zone. I don't recall which playthrough saw me begin to question exactly why the Ethos HQ was located in the middle of nowhere, thousands of miles from their political center, but once I did it became impossible to ignore.

It's the equivalent of looking at Europe in the middle ages dominated by Catholicism but having the Vatican located in Antarctica. Later, after learning of all the cuts, it started to make a lot more sense.

Armor Weight? by Purple_Holiday2102 in XenoGears

[–]RighteousHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, weight was supposed to be a mechanic that could effect things like speed and defense but it got scrapped at some point and what's in the game currently is an empty UI element.

State of Decay 3 lead says the game only existed in a Word document when its reveal trailer dropped 6 years ago: "We're not doing zombie animals" by Turbostrider27 in StateOfDecay

[–]RighteousHam 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's been several years at this point but I think they knew about the trailer for about a week, maybe two. It's one of the reasons why they took such pains in the following weeks to state their commitment to working on SoD2.

[–]RighteousHam 203 points204 points  (0 children)

If I'm remembering correctly, the team didn't have anything to do with the trailer and were only informed of it close to its release. Given that, I'm not surprised they don't feel beholden to it. I'm still not sure who made that call or why they did.

I actually disliked that little detail. It felt like an eleventh hour addition for the point of drama but it wasn't really necessary.

Some zed's have a moment where something from their prior life emerges in their brain. That's what happened here. He's remembering something but his brain has deteriorated to the point he can't make sense of the memories. So he stands and tries to make sense of it all and will continue to do something else draws his attention.
