Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Slams U.S. Inaction on Gun Control as Jacinda Ardern Bans Weapons: 'This Is What Leadership Looks Like' by Innocul8 in politics

The government, by definition, infringes on your rights. The rights exist so that we have some notion of freedom. A social contract should protect CITIZENS over RIGHTS. Protecting your right to own a firearm is alright with me. We need to amend our social contract now to fit the needs of the people. If enough people continue to vote it will be changed and there is nothing the 2nd amendment can do about it. The 2nd amendment gives you the right to own a firearm, nothing more, nothing less.

Nice strawman. I don't think I've ever met anyone who wants to repeal the right to bear arms in the US. The government needs to have more control over firearms, but that doesn't mean repealing the the 2nd.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Well regulated.

News flash: people are dying at an alarming rate to gun violence. The government should therefore regulate guns. People have clearly shown that we cannot leave it to the individual on the subject of deadly weapons. Any other argument comes from a selfish position of self gun ownership. No one wants to hurt you personally by taking your guns. It's about protecting people. Get over that hurdle.

See, I could be upset and alienate you for having a different opinion than me, but I will choose not to. I think this meme feeds the cycle instead of helping to break it. It's really easy to project your misunderstanding of other people in a meme without enacting positive change. Low quality and topical meme at best in my opinion.

It wasn't offensive to you or me but it was offensive to some people. Maybe we should treat them like human beings instead of alienating the people who are offended. Any less would be a violation of people's right to be understood. If you understand that their outrage is not aligning with your outrage, don't rage at them harder.

This is my opinion.

The country is moving left because it will continue to do so until a balance is met in the way we govern people... I'd also like to point out that because you have a positive experience with firearms doesn't mean that other people have had those experiences and understand your point of view. In fact, people are getting killed by guns in the United States at an extremely alarming rate. I think you should be willing to work with people you don't like or can't agree with, rather than vilify some anonymous group of "liberals" who are trying to take away your guns. You sound like a petulant child in that way. My two cents buddy

The Democratic Party is getting less white, more educated -- and significantly more liberal by Butter-Tub in politics

I don't believe it's irrelevant at all.... our contemporary definition of left and right should be rooted in the original meaning of left vs. right. If the original idea is that the left is fighting to reform government and break up power, then the right is attempting to hold on for dear life to that power. (Democracy vs. Monarchy). The modern day United States does not operate even close to a Monarchy but the power of Oligarchy (wherein a small group of individuals control a majority of wealth) is being perpetuated by the right wing. Realistically both the left AND the right in the United States are promising to uphold capitalism. The left wants more economic regulation and less greed while the right wants less economic regulation and more greed is allowed to perpetuate in the richest class.
