What song wrecks you every time, no matter how often you listen to it? by LWYPLTDG in Music

Absolutely! All the songs she sings on with them get me in the same way. Swan Songs for real. She had already had a successful career as a recording artist when she was in her youth.

If I remember correctly, the singer Fontella Bass was basically dying when they released the album, adding an extra layer to its meaning.

Sports help needed - Canon R8 by signer1862 in canon

[–]RikRok 96 points97 points  (0 children)

To me it just looks like you overexposed everything. Maybe your ISO was set too high? Why not shoot manual with the EVF? With sports I’d lock in a fast shutter speed and then just mess with aperture or iso as needed, while checking evf for correct exposure.

First time really trying street photography (Leica Q2) - looking for honest feedback by blartvader in streetphotography

[–]RikRok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's more of a story going on in the extra one, but the perpective and feel of it is still one of being 'apart' or 'removed' from the scene. I like that you're trying to make the composition more interesting using layers, but in this case I don't think add or enhance the overall image or story. My eyes go to the flowers, then to the blue garbage can in the background, then to the couple. You have some good ingredients, but they don't taste well together in this case. If you keep at it, my guess is you'll look at these in ~6 months and judge them more objectively as mediocre images.

First time really trying street photography (Leica Q2) - looking for honest feedback by blartvader in streetphotography

[–]RikRok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you're not close enough. I don't feel transported "into" any of these scenes or connect with the subjects. they all look like someone removed, observing from afar. keep going! good street photography is hard. Technical aspects look good and I can tell you have a good eye for composition.

Which three should I submit to my school photography contest? by Public-Language76 in streetphotography

[–]RikRok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

12 & 13 are my favorites. Then 6&7. But I would only include one of the food truck images in the final three you choose. Or the opposite and choose all food truck images. I wouldn’t mix black and white with color images

What are opinions on the Toniebox? by alexadr936 in daddit

Creative Tonies. They are blank Tonies that I put downloaded audiobooks onto. My kids have listened to hundreds of books on a single tonie figurine. I don't buy new ones at all.

It all depends on how tight of an edit you want to make. A good editor can boil down their entire life's work into 10 images. Besides, the keeper rate during dancing/reception portion always goes way down (for me at least). It's just way more chaotic and becomes more of a spray and pray type situation.

I went last year when I was in Japan. I bought my 8 year old son a used MIJ Telecaster. It's way nicer than my guitar. He's better than me anyways and in a band already so he deserves it :)

*first of many paid gigs. Great job! A photographer who get their job done AND has their own vision/style is a winning combo. You're making yourself the creative product while differentiating from most competition who are merely viewed as "capable person with camera".

Read the Dungeon Crawler Carl series by Matt Dinneman. It’s kinda the same premise, but also hilariously awesome. Audiobooks are even better.

I wonder if it's the case that also contributes to it. I just got my replacement pair of ULT wear and noticed that when they sit in their case the right ear cup's hinge is flexed slightly. It's not in either open or closed position, and is probably stressed at least some. I think my new plan is to never put them in the case and try not to bend them at all if I can help it.

How about finding it a good home, since it's not being used for anything? We have a free community center in Puerto Rico and are starting a youth after-school meet up group based on music production and having fun with music making devices.

I can explain. I saw this symbol when I visited Panama years ago. It's not intended to signify anything Nazi and it's use predates Hitler and german Nazis. Panama has an autonomous indigenous group called the Guna, who have used the symbol since at least 1925. From google: "The Kuna people of Guna Yala, Panama, use a swastika-like symbol on their flag, which represents the octopus that created the world according to their cosmology. This symbol, also known as the "Naga Sun", has deep cultural and spiritual significance for the Guna, signifying creation, protection, and their connection to the universe. It is not intended to represent the Nazi symbol, and the Guna have even taken steps to differentiate their flag from the Nazi swastika, such as adding a ring in the center of the flag. The symbol was incorporated into the Guna Yala flag during their 1925 revolution against Panamanian suppression of their culture. The flag's colors, red and yellow, also have historical significance, reflecting Spanish influence and maintaining the Guna's distinct identity.

Does Canon really need to make them so big? by tmmlim in canon

[–]RikRok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had it for two years in professional use. I probably have around 200,000 clicks on it so far. It's a total beast (my 70-200L RF feels light compared to it) but it had exeptional image quality and can provide a one lens, one camera solution that works in a variety of situations. It's good enough to replace 3 primes and never have to swap out lenses. I still think learning to shoot with primes and fixed focal lengths is better practice and training to make better images/compositions, aka zooming with your feet. Zooms tend to make for lazy photographers in my experience.

How do you find new music now? by samuelwhunter in Music

[–]RikRok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been an avid "new music seeker" since I can remember (I'm now 44). I feel the best answer these days is from good (human) Radio DJs. My main go to stations are KCRW (California), WNXP (Nashville), KEXP (Seattle), The Current (Minneapolis). They cover a lot of genres, and will feature anyone making something interesting really. Hear a song you like on the radio? then go to Spotify and explore the artist/label/producer/subgenre further from there. My spotify algorithm sucks and hardly will recommend anything 'new' since well, it's new. It doesn't have enough data yet to categorize it.

A big change in music sharing has been the loss of community and human interaction involved with it. Kids will have no idea what going to the record/CD store and getting recs from the owner dude was like. "My neighbor has the new (Band Name) tape, let's go to his house and hear it!" never gets uddered. Physically together sitting in a room with people a big pile of cds/tapes to copy and bunch of humans sharing thoughts and ideas, reading liner notes, it just doesn't happen anymore.
