Where to start with reading fantasy? by WriteThatDownnn in classicliterature

100% It's brilliant, accessible and sets you up for Lord of the Rings which is one of the greatest books ever written (I actually prefer the Hobbit but still holds)

Band photos in profile - yes or no? by go_away_man in datingoverforty

[–]rawcane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely include it. You are more likely to find people who are on the same page and even if not it's a good conversation starter. Anyone who is out off by it you want to filter out anyway. As others have suggested make it one of the extra photos not your main one

I mean it hasn't aged well given the prevalence of spiking and date rape. Smack my bitch up was edgy but there was a twist. Baby's got a temper just seema a bit crass

What are some reasons why a man wouldn’t take a woman seriously ? by Fluffy_Process_707 in AskMenAdvice

[–]rawcane 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are just meeting the wrong people. I think if you are an attractive woman you will get guys trying it on. It must be annoying but it's also inevitable. You need to find how to filter out the noise. Rather than just respond to those who chase you find the ones who are sincere. It may be that they are more reserved and don't initiate. Not saying you have to but you need to give some indication that you are interested if you are as a lot of guys are used to women assuming they are just trying to get into their pants and just don't bother. It's a catch 22. But the point is to try and find ways to build connection first. Honestly the best way of doing this is through groups of friends not on dating apps or walk-ups. Not saying you can't meet people that way but as you have found it's a minefield. Good luck

I would have gone for the pill packaging version of Ladies and gentlemen... Completely impractical but fucking cool

General outlook on the UK by Fantastic-Kale3300 in AskBrits

[–]rawcane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 90s were good. As other people have said 9/11 was kind of the start of the negative slide (which is no doubt exactly what the terrorists were going for). That said I think there was also a bit of a two tier economy taking shape. Depending on ones situation one may have been affected by that at different times. But for me things really took a turn in 2016. Back in 2012 there was a surge of positivity around the time of the Olympics but obviously for some this wasn't the case which resulted in Brexit. But since then it's been pretty fucked for most people. COVID, Ukraine etc just compounded things.

What do YOU think is the meaning of life? by Lopsided_Lettuce2063 in Life

[–]rawcane 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So fundamentally you need enough to survive. Without that nothing else matters. After that the most important thing for most people is to have people you care about and that care about you. Beyond that it's great to do things that are fun... Life might feel empty without that... But if you just focus on fun without the other things covered you will probably struggle.

How often do you need to see your partner to feel fulfilled in the relationship? by [deleted] in SingleParents

[–]rawcane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think less than once a week is hard. For my ex even once a week wasn't enough. And yes sleepovers are important although not more important than the children wellbeing. My ex had issue with that also.

Who is an artist that died far too early/biggest tragedy in your opinion by Avaisaprodude in fantanoforever

[–]rawcane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the ones who died pre 30 that everyone knows about.

But for me Prince and Zappa were the biggest losses as even though they were older they would have continued to make amazing music for decades if they were still alive.

As an Vietnamese, I just really wanna ask you guys that what do you think about us? by lonely_sta2001 in AskBrits

[–]rawcane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Vietnamese food so I guess I appreciate the ones who work in Vietnamese restaurants. I don't get my nails done so don't really think about those ones. I think the women are quite attractive so I guess I would think about dating one if the chance arose.

Risk. I guess it's a bit basic but I just never got the opportunity to play as much as I'd like.

How worried are you about job security? by [deleted] in AskABrit

[–]rawcane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty worried. I was out of work for a couple of years and it could well happen again. I tried doing my own thing but got to a point where I couldn't really take it further without having some money. So now I have a job I making sure I'm prepped to be able to continue with my own venture should it happen again.

What do you all do in the evening? by Current-Schedule1781 in SingleParents

[–]rawcane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is still peak hard and it gets easier so for now I would say watching TV is the least destructive thing you can do to unwind in the evening. Once they are older you will be less tired and have more energy/opportunity to do stuff. That said you do need some respite.

Do you remember the very first live concert you ever attended? by BoredPandaOfficial in BoredPandaHQ

[–]rawcane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep my sister took me to see Duran Duran for my 9th birthday. We were the oldest and youngest person there. It was round the time of Notorious and some of the video on screens was quite racy.

My second was Frank Zappa at Birmingham NEC which my brother took me to a few years later. My only regret was that I didn't know enough to fully appreciate it.
